no brake lights 98 civic
Hey I just picked up a 98 civic hx with a b20 that was converted to right hand drive. I never checked when I looked at the car if the brake lights worked but checked blinkers and head lights. Does any one have an idea of if it's something with the rhd conversion or should I just go simple route and replace the brake switch
Thnak you
Thnak you
I would check the switch first, simple enough 12V+ constant input, [hot at all times] and 12V+ output when brake stepped on, most likely a white/green input and a green/white output. 94
I assumed it was more than likely the switch I checked at the pigtail and had no power coming in from brake pedal just wondered if it was a known issue with rhd conversion cars
It is most likely the cause of no brake lights an any car, but like anything else test first, just tossing parts at a problem is an expensive way to troubleshoot a problem, especially when it is so easy to test the switch, if there is no power going to the switch then replacing it will not solve your problem, it may be as simple as a blown or defective fuse, or just a connection problem. 94

I was working on it today and I also have a brake light on the dash so I went to check brake fluid couldn't get cap off looked down the wiring and the wiring was tightened down under a control arm bolt wires were bare when I took them out re connected them still have brake light and no brake lights. I couldn't get my test light on the switch wiring but will get to it tomorrow

The brake warning light in the dash is for brake fluid level, [low] and for the hand brake, [on] it has nothing to do with the brake lights.
With the brake warning light on pull up the hand brake, if warning light gets brighter, the problem is not the hand brake circuit, the problem is the float switch in the MBC, you will need to get the cap off, push down on cap as you unscrew it, [counter clockwise] make sure float slides freely on post, push all the way up tp cap, if brake warning light still on, replace cap.
You can just unplug the brake light switch to test it, if you have power on one terminal in the plug jump the two terminals with a paper clip and if the brake lights turn on replace the switch.94

And one other question is the right hand drive brake switch different from usdm switch I looked at mine but also ordered on on my parts account and when I looked at the new one I feel like it's not the same but didn't have the car around today so I wonder if they are different the one in the car is more like a cylinder shape and the new one is square

The switch is not the problem, you need to have power to one of the leads, [12V+ constant] if not, either a fuse is blown or there is a wiring problem.
FYI there are a number of brake light switches for your Honda, check out other Honda/Acura switches,,,, 98 honda civic brake light switch | eBay maybe one of them is the same as yours.
There art two brake light switches for most Honda /Acura, a 2 pin , [no cruse control] and a 4 pin, [w/cruse control].
If worse comes to worse just get a universal brake light switch and crimp on a set of quick release female terminals to your brake switch wiring, but first thing to do is find out why there is no power to thhe Brake switch plug. 94
