Default Possible ignition issues in a 94 del sol

I'm new to the forum so, I hope this is the right place to post this. Is it possible to have a dead spot in the ignition key cylinder? This problem only started about a week ago and, I'll do my best to describe it. If I turn the key to the 2 position the dash lights come on and, I can hear the feel pump pressurize. If I turn the key to a spot between the 2 and 3 positions the dash lights cut off. When I turn the key all the way, the engine starts just fine, except that it dies as soon as I release pressure on the key. If I fiddle with it a few times (revving the engine and trying to get the key back to just the right spot) the engine will stay on. That's why I assumed the problem was limited to the actual lock cylinder.


I'll admit that I'm not an expert here so, any thoughts? Think it's the lock cylinder? Or could it, perhaps, be the ignition switch?

you can try cleaning it:

i did the contacts but not the springs.
it did help but they were dodgy parts to begin with.
just be happy it lasted this long cuz a lot of em didnt.
i bought a new one from rockauto for like $50 or so
and it's much better now.

I'll definitely give this a shot, next chance I get. Until then, any tips on how to start it from under the hood? Just want to make sure I'm not screwing over the starter by continually messing with the key.

No, it's the electrical part of the switch.
