Hey guys. As my name implies, my car is a 88 civic sedan. I did a cluster swap a few years ago from an 88-89 with a tach. Im growing bored and tired of the inaccurate tach. Of course ive been reading, searching, googling etc. Everything I have read says basically you need the cluster hood from a 90-91 do to most cluster swaps in the 88-89 chasis. My question is this: what do you do about the black trim/gauge bezel/vent assemblies piece that is on the 88-89? If I remove mine and use the 90 style cluster hood, it eliminates my dash vents and trim and leaves it unfinished. My assumption is that I need an entire dash swap, but no threads, article's, forums address this so thought i would ask. Ill attatch a pic of the dash piece in question on my 88.
Didnt specify exactly what model cluster I want to do. Sort of thought all 90-91 clusters were the same. As far as the part your referring to in that diagram: number 47?? It also shows the typical 90-91 hood that is in everyones writups. Are the sedans the only models with that vent trim/hood all in one? My other thought now is will the 90 style part your referring to fit to the 88 dash? Being that the dash is contoured to the bezel trim piece ( item 47).
