Default First paint job on my replacemet civic EK front bumper*

Hello so id like to share a recent project i took on my self after getting into a fender bender and breaking my front bumper, i purchased a replacent front bumper for $60 and the paint from Sherwin Williams auto single stage Teffeta White. I searched for a month and was getting to high of qoutes just to repaint the bump and $300 was the lowest i found lol, so being on a budget and having a light backround of painting i decided to do it myself. So i purchased a gun new at Harbor freight for $30 and some misc supplies. I used 2 coats of a adhesive spray first then sprayed about 4 layers, light coat to med to one heavy and she came out ok id say! This is my first time using automotive grade or a single stage mix and also using a top feed air spray gun.

I also picked up a set of used 99 ek oem head lamps and did a lil polish on them and there like new! the Ones that came on there were aftermarket smoked headlights which i diddnt like cause they were all faded oxidized and cracking! and a tab broke from the accident.

How big of a compressor did you use? Looks like a 10-15 gallon.

Looks great! By the way, that gun is a rip off. Its the same gun as the $15 gun but with an APR. APR is $5 from there and $15 gun. So you save $10 if you buy it seperate lol.

Thats what i thaught but the box says its uses less psi 45psi and the other one thatts $15 was like 65psi so id the guy said its the high preasure low volume gun. Its a 4hp compressor.

Used OEM EK headlights, did a polish with some Plastiqs headlight renewal ,

Set it on some old chairs to dry in the garrage over night.

Paint job looks good, not good on the color match, I think its time to paint the rest of the car.

BTW the seagull in The Shallows is super hilarious.

IMO the paint match is pretty close up close only cause the bumper has fresh paint of course but its good enough for me for now better than it looked before lol so i took upon another project with my cousin repainting his messed up failed attept to plati dip the front end to cover the damages on the front bumper and new fenders to replace the bent rusted ones. still need to wet sand and polish it but it came out ok i guess for my second amature job. Pics will be up when im not lazy.

Ps what seagull are you talking about?? lol

thanks man, my biggest issue #1 was the car was previously painted by the last owner and I believe the paint is to tafeta White but I had no other way of finding out that paint code so I went with the tafeta White, and for stage 1 it matches pretty close but for a do it yourself job I think it came out quite decent. Iv been painting stuff since 7 years old started out with stripping bmx bikes and painting frames, I also do custom hydrodipped valve covers and custom vynal wrap on the side. I'm trying to get better,

I recently painted a freinds Acura TL body kit and it came out very nice but I failed to research on the tips when painting stage one with paint that has silver mist, I was suposed to spray in diffrent patterns to better match the oem paint but it came out ok but of I did it over I think it would match much better. I'll post pics soon.

Recently I also repaired my oem a Integra Type R front lip that got cracked in half and also redid my carbon fiber Type R replica rear wing. The shop that painted my chasis used oem taffeta white so i used the rest of the stahe 1 i had but its not a 100 % same but owell. This is my project track car and I chose to do the work myself to save money and to be honest it came out great imo. I did a stage one but added a clear on top. I'll post pics soon.

Heres some pics of the Acura TL body kit i did for my friends car it diddnt match good because i should of sprayed in different patterns to help it blend better with oem paint because of the mist added in paint.

Nice, I noticed you missed Caoboys question so I'll ask again, what size compressor tank did you go with?

I don't know how you do it when spraying outside but damn you're good.

I think its a Craftsman 15g 4hp compressor. It broke down shortly after these projects unfortunatly.

Thanks it was very difficult with the wind and things flying around but they came out good, and i have my share of painting experience as early as 10 years old stripping and painting BMX bikes, which i have a thread here showing a retoration of a RedLine BMX pro line i recently did.

Yeah, pics!

Thanks!

Have you ever fixed any cracks in a factory bumper skin?

What did you polish those lights with?

Not on a bumper but I fixed a crack on my lip.

I used miguires head light polish new improved formula bottle and I used a polish pad that attaches to a drill and polished it up. The pad I used was from a Mothers head light restoration kit.

I wanted to share pics of the booth I made to paint some of these things, I used a canopy I got from wall mart for $100 and used plastic wrap that I got from my work and made walls, I used some wood from a old fence we had in a pile and I used them to brace the top from buckling in as I wrapped the sides to make walls. for the most part it worked out in blocking the wind and bugs out in the back yard.

Here you can see the fence wood I used to brace the top from buckling inward as I wrapped.
