confused with ARP head studs for D16Y8
Well i have a set of 208-4305 ARP head studs with the label "d16y" right on the box, put them in D16y8 shortblock and then slid on my p2j-5 d16y8 head and they are all about a half inch too long. just throwing this out there because im a lil dissapointed, i called ARP and their suggestion was to buy a kit for a toyota 1.6l motor with same threads and diameter but are about a half inch shorter overall, then i mentioned that the furthest right on back row is shorter then the other 9 so then he said to get the measurements i need for a custom set.. and said that the only problem with honda's he heard of is requiring one longer bolt. I dont quite understand why all of mine are too long, just variations from factory in heads like different each year or from auto/manual cars? ARP did something wrong? and would it be alright to stack washers til it works? lol. should i try the toyota bolts that r stonger he says, prolly like a $200+ set tho im sure
Measure the length of your head studs.
There is a chance you got Z6 studs in the Y box. Possibly a customer returned the z6 studs in the Y box and it wasn't caught at ARP or Summit racing or whomever you bought the studs from..

Yeah, I have yet to see any other d16y users complain that the arp studs they got were wrong, or you have a y8 short block with a z6 head. Who know's.
Seems like you may have either gotten the wrong part number in the box, or you have some type of abnormal (i.e. not factory) combination of block and head, or a seriously decked block/head. First order of business i would return the ARP for a fresh set of the same part number, then measure those and see if the length is different. If this is the case, boom problem solved. If this is not the case, then you can go about deciphering what is going on and what custom head studs you need for your setup. Also, silly question but some people really overlook the obvious; your block is stamped D16Y8 correct?
When i was able to get back the motor i pulled few studs out to measure and they must be the d16z/a studs because they are almost 6.5" long when the d16y studs r suppose to be 5.7" long.. Now i ordered a set from Real St to have em as soon as possible. I almost thought it mightve been a z6 head but then the problem wouldve been opposite y studs would b too short for a z head.. plus it is stamped p2j, and yes my block is a y8 block and i bought these studs in a package from a guy that sold me the disassembled short block so im stuck with em, hard to say if he knew but its whatever not much wouldve been knocked off without em
