WP/timing belt kit. new owner of a 92
Hello, new here
I was GIVEN a rough 92 accord because nobody could figure out why it had no spark or fuel. Had been sitting for about 10yrs. Luckily I'd delt with this before and slapped a new main relay in her and drove my free car home
it needs some work though, broken axels, black trans fluid,ect..
My first project is deffinatly going to be water pump & timing belt, but there's ALOT of options for kits... Has anybody noticed any significant difference with any brand of aftermarket parts compared to OEM? lifespan ect..?
Also if anybody happens to have or know of a good writeup with pics that would be awesome. I've found a few but can't hurt to read more! Looks a bit more in depth than doing the TB on my civic.. My ultimate goal is to squeeze a little more power out of this car and have fun learning the setup.
If there's anything I could do to get more juice out of this sucker while I'm tearing into this section of engine, LET ME KNOW lol
Thanks

EX models came with rear discs, DX and non ABS LX models had rear drums.
Drain and refill trans 3X to remove the old fluid. Do not 'flush' or try to pump out the fluid via the cooler lines. Transmission is a low pressure unit and the sump filter is not accessible(no pan), best way to remove the old fluid, gunk, and debris is to remove the drain plug on the right side cover and simply drain, refill, drive, ~30miles using all gears, and repeat.
Time belt kit from Gates w/waterpump is the best deal, purchase it from Rockauto.com. Locate a R/A discount code and it should cover the shipping.
At this time I would also recommend purchasing a new thermostat from Honda, 19301-P08-316 well worth it. If they are asking over $30 tell them you just want retail and not matrix pricing.
