Default 1995 Honda civic ex 1.6l overheating/idle issues

Hello. I have a 1995 Honda civic ex 1.6l vtech which has 167000 miles.
The problem started with it getting hot. At first the car would run fine and the temp guage would show nrmal when driving around town......it would only get hot when i got on the freeway....and even then it would only get hot when i stopped. .once I would start moving again the temp guage would go back to normal well now the car has started idling rough and the car gets hot after 10 minutes of drivong no matter how fast or slow I am going...when it gets hot as soon as i come to a stop it dies....and will not start for a few min. The engine just cranks....also I keep having to fill the coolent in the radiator.....although it does not leak a drop of coolant from anywere. There are no signs of head gasket damage...no water in oil....no smoke from radiater nothing that shows a damaged head gasket. Any info would be a great help thanks i have replaced thermostat.....done a tune up....and radiator cap....

The head is likely warped as it's over heated several times by the sounds.

I am willing to bet that if you pull your spark plugs you may find a piston or two lacking much black carbon.

Also you probably have a fair amount of air in the cooling system that also contributes to the thermostat not opening, the fan not kicking on as well as idle issues when the air packet gets near the ECT sensor.

A block tester will be able to confirm if you are getting combustion gases into the coolant system.

Ok well I forgot to mention that the fan is hard wired to come on all the time when key is turned on....and it works.....not sure if that matters

Get cooling system completely full. Engine cold, take off radiator cap start engine and rev it. If you see constant bubbles or coolant gushing out, head gasket is blown.
