99 Prelude SRS clutch replacement - parts & tools req'd? (which kit?)
Coworker's car needs a clutch. Quotes are pricey. I've helped someone do a clutch job before & have a friend with shop space so doing a bit of quick research to see what would be involved if we tackle this ourselves soon.
Kits for sale online:
1999 HONDA PRELUDE 2.2L L4 Clutch Kit | RockAuto
But there isn't much of a description for most besides the single photo. If he orders one of these kits: a) which one would you recommend? b) are there other parts he should be replacing at the same time?
I see there are several other seals etc for sale here: 1999 HONDA PRELUDE 2.2L L4 Transmission-Manual Parts | RockAuto - or are these parts all show in the kit pics? Or are they not typically necessary and only replaced as needed?
Specialized tools req'd? ie I see there's a Clutch Alignment Tool (I don't recall having to use a specialized tool to align the clutch on the BMW M5 we did a few years ago.. but then again, it was a few years ago & wasn't my car or tools.)
Yes, I understand the engine has to be supported/tilted forward. A friend has an engine hoist we can borrow.
Might seem like some silly questions, but any answers/advice are appreciated! Hopefully with a little info we'll be able to get things sorted out and I'll be able to help him fix his ride and save him some $$$.

Usually a clutch kit will come with the pressure plate and disc, as well as an alignment tool, at least all of the Exedy kits I buy do. You will need some high temp grease for the install, and new tranny fluid. I prefer Honda fluid for a street car, and I have tried quite a few fluids and mixes over time.
If the car is a base model, shouldn't be too bad, but the clutch job on an SH model sucks, due to the ATTS unit.
Doing the clutch on my car when it went out was what really got me into wrenching/ modifying, so have fun!

Replace the rear main seal while you have the transmission out.
You can buy the Exedy clutch kit for $112 on amazon. Includes clutch disk, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and alignment tool. I just bought this kit 3 days ago, quality parts.
I would not do this job (especially on somebody else's car) without using the service manual. The tightening sequence of the bolts, and the torque specifications are of the most imporance. You'll find a download link here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/iz...SDM_Manual.pdf
Here's a link to a guide I put together using another DIY post (created as a sample walkthrough for a website I've been working on called wikiHonda.com): Transmission Removal + Clutch Replacement - wikiHonda
