97 accord stalls while driving
97 accord dx, auto
The engine will stall while driving, rpm guage drops to 0. If i press down on accelerator a little more the engine will kick back in and the rpms come back up. The radio remains on during this process. This happens less frequently when i drive in d3. It seems like it stalls more often when the rpms are lower(hwy speeds in d4) however, it never completely dies while driving. When i come to a stop the engine dies and i need to throw it in P and restart. I have to pump the gas in order to get it to restart.
The car only has 125k mi and i just gave it a tune up(plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter). The tune up did not fix the issue.. Halp!!!11!!1!

I had a similar problem with my 99 accord. There was a recall for the ignition switch. The switch would go bad and think there was no key in the ignition and turn off the car. Not sure it is the same fix for you, but replacing the ignition switch was a fairly simple and affordable.

Since the car dying is related to the rpm's dropping to zero I would say the ignition control module is bad and overheating and cutting out, then when it cools it comes back on.
I sort of ruled out the icm because when i drive in d3 it will only stall while im stopped at a light or stopsign
Do you know what component controls the input to the rpm gauge ? When you find that out and you can confirm what you said about the rpm's dropping to zero while the car is running, combined with the car dying, that should help you narrow down the most likely culprit.
