Bent upper control arm - how to tell if spindle is bent as well?
99 civic ex 2 door- Hit a median- bent the **** out of the upper control arm (very obvious compared to passenger side sitting straight) I have new struts and they're fine amazingly but hit the median at about 30mph... Bent my 17 inch wheel thats discontinued (all of this on drivers side) - question is how likely is a bent spindle??? Im going to replace the lower and upper control arm and tie rod but does the spindle look bent because the upper arm is bent or will it just kinda form with the upper control arm if its bent? How can you tell if a spindle is bent since it kinda curves upward.
Check your suspension all around. When I hit a median in my del Sol more parts were busted and bent on the pass then driver.
And most likely it isn't your spindle I was going atleast 35-40 mph same situation except I was even lowered 2in. I ended up replacing...
Driver
Tie rod end
Inner tie rod
Lower control arm
Pass
Tie rod end
Inner tie rod
Axle(crash ripped the boot)
Upper control arm and bushings
Lower control arm
Shock and strut( but still haven't replaced)

How was your subframe? Is it easy to tell if its shifted or bent? How did your car drive before you changed all those parts? Mine drives perfect except it pulls hard to the right.
Whats odd is when i swap wheels on the front the pull changes so i thought it was the tire being bad- NOPE_ wasted money on a new tire car will pull in the direction of
whatever side the lip bent rim is on. Its bullshit when they say the tires cause the pull- the bent rim actually is in my case.

It's a LOT harder to bend a knuckle than you would think...
So just to make sure I'm clear. You've already replaced the affected parts? (or to your knowledge?)
Have you had the car aligned since the accident? If, so what were the readings?
You are not using the bent wheel, correct?

You should change your master cylinder gasket, maybe it got loose in the accident since it was already leaking. also you should make sure that you don't run over a median in excess of about three miles an hour, if you have the ground clearance.
Since you have a double wish bone independent suspension, maybe the strut fork is actually bent too slightly to see with the naked eye? your unibody could have moved as slightly too and I never tried to be an alignment or body tech so i don't know how much tolerance the suspension can make up for.

Drivers side is currently apart and i only see a bent upper control arm- i read the spindle will break before it bends, being cast iron. I'm wondering about the lower control arm and cant tell if its bent. Car had no clunks or weird sounds just pulled to the right- How can i tell if this lower control arm or the subframe has bent/shifted? Thats all i need to know at this point- Anyone have pics of a slightly bent or shifted subframe? I have no reference. Also i have new wheels coming in the mail.
Another edit - the lower control arms are cast iron and ive read this is hard to bend it usually breaks? Anyone confirm? Whats the subframe made out of?

You might as well drop the subframe, rack, lower arms, spindles, upper arms, all at once from a junkyard car to swap it in.
Even better idea.
