New Engine: New problems (Bearing noise)
Hi all,
I was gifted a 2006 Civic by my late brother and have been using for approx 1 1/2 years. Car is great but has some interesting issues.
I'll address the most recent in this post.
At 192,000 mile I was thinking of tossing the car as the engine had seen better days with what seemed to be a bottom end knock.
In any case, as I was driving the car one day, I noticed the coolant temp gauge had maxed out.
Long story short, Honda replaced the engine due to the cracked block recall.
While they were in there I had the clutch, PP and TOB replaced.
Fast forward a couple weeks and the CEL lights up. Went to the dealer and they pull a code that points to the Output Shaft Sensor. I ordered the sensor as the Speedo now reads 0 mph. Waiting for delivery.
When the CEL came on I also noticed a bit of a grinding/whirring noise when the clutch is engaged....accelerating or decelerating. Sure sounds like a bearing, but which one? Output shaft, Input shaft, main shaft, possible defective TOB?????
Any chance the sensor failure is related to grinding/whirring sound or coincidence.
Thanks in advance for any help!

It could be a possibility that the dealer damaged the wires to the speed sensor or sensor itself on the transmission. Is the transmission in good health otherwise as far as no other bearing whine or notchiness? The grinding most likely could be the input shaft bearing.
I'm waiting for the new sensor to arrive.
I do hear a growling/whir sound from the trans area (as far as I can tell) but it's only when the clutch is engaged and I'm accelerating or decelerating. Not sure if that describes a TOB failure.

Could be that they messed up with the TOB install. With that mileage it could be the input shaft bearing, but there was no noise before they did the clutch job?
The TOB is not spinning unless the clutch is pressed down. The first thing I would do is drain the tranny fluid and see how much fluid is in there and how clean the drain bolt is. I would compare how much came out to how much should come out on a drain and fill.
