My CRX si Died can you HELP?
So exiting the freeway she stalled, then I started her back up, and she sputtered and was making lil backfire noise not loud but almost, so I rev'ed it up good and she ran about 3 blocks, Then idled low and then died, I pulled over in a lot and a lil bit of smoke rolled out and the engine was hot, but the tac said normal,,, I ask some folk and they said Alternator died... Not sure that the problem, can anyone help me figure this one? Battery and wires are new and New Muffler Old Cat... lots of Rattle going on down there too.
I'm shocked your letting a fellow Honda owner Hanging ?
I really need help, I see a lot of comments on other questions so I guessed it was a ligit form ...

It's probably your distributor. Samething happened to me a while back. The rotor screw fell and the belt skipped a tooth, got lucky that I didnt screw up the cylinder head.
No where near enough info to properly diagnose the problem, starting with year of your car, any mods?
Your post is a little confusing, " Then idled low and then died, I pulled over in a lot and a lil bit of smoke rolled out and the engine was hot, but the tac said normal,,,"
What does that mean???
Smoke from where ?
What do you mean engine was hot?
What do you mean "tac" was normal?
Do you mean tech?
If engine was stalled tech would be at zero.
How did "people" determine that it was the alt. that was the problem?
Have you checked what is missing, spark or fuel???? 94

Yup, really sounds like distributor or the distributor rotor & or screw. Once upon a time and long long ago, my rotor screw came out... died immediately on side of road. I could get it to fire sporadically and sputter but it will run RICH since you're dumping fuel in without proper ignition.

The car was running normal temp on the dashboard
People are saying the alt, but I don't agree with that, car cranks the bat is not dead,,, how could the alt stall your car?
Just because the motor cranks over doesn't mean it has spark...how did you determine if it has spark? Check the cam timing as well...
And Thanks everyone for all your answers , I'm super stumped on why it won't start...

And the car when it died was chugging along, had to rev it up to keep it alive!
Us an HEI spark tester to test for spark, only around $10 at ant auto parts store.
You said fuel is not the problem, "lots of fuel" but from where???
Just because the fuel pump is working and fuel gets to the fuel rail does not mean fuel is getting into the cylinders.
Try this, try starting the engine then immediately remove a spark plug and see if it is "wet" with gas, you can also test for power at the injectors, [lead that is the same color at each injector] both when ign is on and when cranking to start, if that is OK teat for ground pulse at the injector, [lead that is a different color at each injector] this is best done with a noid light , but can also be tested with an LED type test light. 94

Pull the sparkplug wire out, stick a screwdriver in it, put it near something like a valve cover nut, and watch for spark as you turn the key.
That's how I test for spark.
That's how I test for spark.
NOOOOOO, do not do this it can blow the coil, it is essentially a dead short, the only safe way is with an HEI spark tester or a spark plug, the coil needs to see the resistance of a spark plug. 94
