Default VTC actuator

Hey guys

My beloved 06 TSX (85,000 miles, auto) is angry with me.

Right when I start her I get a grind noise for a half second.

At first I thought starter ...but then I started reading about this VTC issue...and it kind of sounds like that may be the culprit....

My questions:

Does the VTC actuator only cause a quick grind right at starting?

Would it still do it if not cold (as in outside temp, it's august - but it does mostly do it first start of day)

Tips for diagnostics ?

Very common issue in the k series apparently. Even after replacement of vtc, timing chain and tensioner. Don't know how to direct you regarding it because you may replace the parts and it could still be there.

i had a 2010 tsx 6 spd, 80,000km approx on it, bought it certified used from acura.

VTC made the griding noise on cold startup. took it back under warranty and I made acura change it 5 times, so 5 new VTC's and it still made the noise. they also replaced timing chain, chain guides, tensioner, still made the noise. was going to make them change the head but they bought back the car instead. apparently, the VTC is not made by honda, and they don't have a fix for it. at worst case they change the entire head.
