Default Bigger Cams - Base Idle question.

Hi all,

I figured if anyone would have good insight it would be experienced tuners.

I'm fairly certain the best practice policy is if you put in bigger cams the motor should be tuned.

What I have not seen information on though is base idle. If you drop in bigger cams, do you still set base idle by the factory service manual if all else on the motor is stock?

Or do bigger cams require a different base idle with a predominately stock setup (motor, ecu etc)?

On bigger cams you should increase the base idle as well as base timing, due the lack of VE at low load. Obviously this applies only on non-vtec cams or in modified non-vtec lobes on vtec cams.

Thank you, I suspected as much. Possibly explains what I am discovering on a used motor I bought.
