Default o2 sensor problem

03 accord LX coupe, V6 250,000 miles

(Note: I posted this in another forum that may have been the wrong place. Looks like there's more activity here. Hope someone has an answer.)

Check engine light on for quite a while. Just replaced the upstream o2 sensors hoping this will fix problem. Check ODB and the readings for the new sensors appear to be in range. But the ODB program is reporting that both the bank 1 and 2, second sensors are reporting no electrical contact with the sensors. This makes me think that maybe there's a wiring problem more than problems with the sensors themselves.

What would cause this and where is a good place to start looking for the problem. Or is it possible that both downstream sensors are bad and causing the no voltage error code.

How hard is it to change these sensors? Upstreams were easy other than spending more time than needed trying to get the connectors to release. I think those things were designed by the devil.

Post the actual trouble codes, that may help narrow the issue.

After installing the new O2 sensor, I tried to clear the trouble codes but they wouldn't clear which makes me wonder if they are permanent codes. So I disconnected the battery. Still waiting to get past the initial period before I can take it for inspection but so far no check engine light. I'm hoping those were old codes that were fixed by the new sensors.

Okay the CHL has come back on and I just checked the codes. I'm getting P0420 and P0430 codes. These codes indicate catalytic converter failure but I'm wondering if I should try replacing the downstream O2 sensors before going to the expense of changing the cats (there are 2 of them on this V6). Opinions?

If the vehicle is in closed loop and proper fuel control, replace the cats.

Before you go replacing the cats, check for exhaust leaks/cracks in the cat, especially near the flange and the secondary O2 sensor.

Agreed, hence my advice of making sure the vehicle is in proper fuel control.

Exhaust leaks will be reflected in the fuel trim/O2 data PIDs.......
