Default 1997 civic ex; car won't start possible alarm problem?

Hello,
Since two days ago, my civic has had some trouble starting. When the key is turned to the on position, lights on the dash will light up; however, when I turn it to crank the engine, all power seems to shut off. Once I close the driver side door, the car alarm will start to go off. Pressing the unlock on my keyless entry seems to silence it. I have tried pressing and holding the valet button until the alarm goes off for about a second, but power within the car seems to cease once I try to crank the engine. Yesterday I removed the negative terminal connector on the battery, reattached it, and it started up. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you.

The ON(III) key position is designed to turn off power to some sources.

If the starter is not cranking, check whether the rubber stopper on the clutch pedal fell out.

Do you have any pictures of this rubber stopper and its location? I did manage to find pieces of rubber in the car floor near the clutch

EDIT: From my understanding with the thread you posted, this is clutch pedal switch B and this is where the rubber stopper goes? Can't seem to see clutch pedal switch A since it is kind of obstructed. I just found switch A. I felt around the rubber and it seems to be intact still. I'm assuming if switch A is held down the car will crank? Should I hold switch A down with my finger and try to start the engine? Pieces of rubber as mentioned: Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet

In the picture background you can see the neutral safety switch. The one you took a picture of is the depression switch for the cruise control

Honda Automotive Parts

When you say "all power" does that mean dome light, [if on] also goes out?
If so, check your main grounds, batt. post. batt. to chassis and chassis to engine grounds, DO NOT just eyeball the, disconnect/clean/reconnect. 94

Thank you guys very much for your input. I was going to clean the terminals and it seems that the positive wires were loose as they came off when I tried to take out the battery. I simply just unloosened the terminal, put the wires as far as I could inside the terminal, and then reconnected the battery. The car started on my first try, and hopefully it wasn't some dumb luck.
