"90 Accord bad trans. or torque convert
I've been searching for quite sometime trying to find out some info on the 90 accord auto trans., haven't found anything yet. Figured I would give you a holler.
I just picked up this little 90 accord, I knew it had some issue with shifting/trans. No codes. First thing i did was a drain and refill (3qts Honda fluid), drain plug had metal "powder" on it, not bad for 160k miles. Then noticed someone had taken upper shift solenoids off and used red silicon to reseal (fluid seepage?). found that a piece of the sealant had come loose and blocked one of the solenoid passages. so took both sets off, cleaned and tested seemed fine (have not yet hooked up pressure gauges). thought i was home free.
Car seems the same:
Starting off in first or reverse, it doesn't react right away and it doesn't start moving till around 2000-2500 rpm.
So far it shifts great to 2, 3, 4
Can it be that somehow the torque convertor is shot and the tranny is still good?
my background is German and Italian cars with manual gearboxes.
Any help would be awesome, thanks!
