Default Code 8 TDC Sensor

Couple of weeks ago my car lost power and died. Tried jumping it, but it would not start. I opened the distributor cap and it was filled with red dust and oil, plus the ignition coil looked burnt. So I go ahead and replaced the dizzy with a unit i found on craigslist. After replacing it, the car started with a jumpstart. But now my check engine light came on, I checked the led light on the ecu and its showing code 8, which is the tdc sensor within the distributor. I already tried resetting the ecu, but the code showed up again. The car runs fine with the check engine light, what could be causing this. The guy who sold me the dizzy did say that that some of the wires were a bit loose right were they go into thr plug. Could this be the cause of code 8 or can bad timing also cause this?
