IL 1999 BMW M3 Black/Black Convertible. Chicago IL
Well I just bought the car in May 2016, but my travel plans have changed. I'm in no rush to sell the car, but instead of definitely storing it for the winter I figured I'll see what happens here.
1999 BMW M3 Cosmos Schwarz Metallic convertible on black interior. Just turned 132,000 miles. VIN#: WBSBK9339XEC44218
Exterior:
Paint is in great shape considering the year and it has no rust. It's sitting on Type 32 BMW wheels that are plasti dipped black, brand new front (215/45/17) tires and brand new rears (235/40/17), I'm not sure on the offset, but it doesn't rub. Tires have less than 1,000 miles and the front brake pads and rotors were just done on 7/20/2016. Comes with 5th Type 32 Wheel for a spare in the trunk. Obviously has a hard top with a flat black wrap on the roof and C pillars. It also has HID headlights with angel eyes.
Interior:
The car does have manual vader seats that are in decent condition, the arm rest is a little beat up, but otherwise the interior is in good shape, rear seats are mint. It has the Harman Kardon factory system with an Alpine head unit that connects to an iPhone via USB cable for music and navigation.
Other Mods:
M3 also has aFe intake and ANSA cat back exhaust (missing one exhaust hanger so it sits a little lower than it should). Previous owner said it has a SPEC stage 2 clutch, it doesn't feel stock so I believe him. It's on lowering springs, not sure on brand but it looks like it sits about an inch to and inch and 1/2 lower, previous owner said he replaced all the rear bushings as well. Finally it has an Autopage alarm system.
Issues:
The real issue with the car is the soft top, I'll be honest and say I've never even seen what it looks like. The motors make noise like something is happening back there, but the top never comes up. The previous owner said the rear window is destroyed so the top and tension straps need to be replaced; I was going to make this a weekend project next summer. The hard top has the common headliner sag issue, it's currently held up with upholstery tacks which works fine unless all the windows are down and you're going 70+ mph. (local shop quoted me $350 to replace the headliner with alcantara or microsuede). The hard top was leaking when I bought the car, I used silicone to fix this but after removing the hard top several times to drive with the top off it started leaking again. I just resealed the top and it doesn't leak, buyer can bring it through a car wash if they want, but I'm not taking the top off again. (new rubber seal is $300, but I didn't want to do this before potentially putting the car in storage for the winter). The airbag light is on from the vader seat swap, I believe it's the passenger occupancy sensor (cheap fix with a bypass sensor).
Final Word
M3 spent the first ~100,000 miles in California or North Carolina. The car starts up every time no problem, I bought it in NY and drove ~1,000 miles to Chicago with no troubles, also recently went on a 7 hour road trip to southern IL and the car was flawless. It doesn't leak any fluids, motor is strong and trans is smooth. I do not have any of the stock parts and the car only has one key. I only have maintenance records for what I've done to the car which includes the tires, front brakes and oil change ~1,500 miles ago. Clean Illinois title in hand. I'm in Chicago most of the week or occasionally in Naperville, IL.
