Default question about my wilwood calipers i just got today

i just got this kit in from fastbrakes.com. it came w/ wilwood 4 piston calipers. it's a very sweet kit, but why the heck has the caliper on the left been grinded down? it doesn't look like it's been mounted on a car before, but it just looks older than the one on the right. any thoughts or ideas?

To possibly clear 15" wheels? Last set I worked on were ground down also but req'd 16" wheels to fit under.

That set is defective, please send them to me right away.
Which fastbrakes kit is that? Fit under 16in rota c8s?

Man you got the nice billet ones, eh?

My cast Superlite IIA calipers I got from Brian were slightly ground too--I had him grind it down in parts where it might meet the back of the 15" GSR wheel I had been using. He also uses them to test fit some of his latest rotor combos too. I still think he oughta disclose the fact that he's used that caliper to test them though.

My Wilwood calipers came fine. You need to talk to Brian about those. Only he can clear things up w/ you.

most likely adapted to fit on the brackets
or shaved a bit to fit under your wheel

im sure for a good reason either way

it's the 11" rotor w/ 4 piston wilwood caliper set. it will fit under most 15" wheels.

Yeah, he more than likely grinded them down for fitment reasons, therefore you may have to do the same to the other one, atleast now you know how much, so it may actually be beneficial that he included one that is already done, just ask him, he is a good guy and I am sure that he will clear it up, later

I have those calipers and I need to change my pads real soon. Is there an OEM pad with the same dimensions, or do I have to call fastbrakes or wilwood to get replacements?

Are pads cheaper for these willwood calipers than for stock calipers?

You can get pads from Wilwood, Porterfield, Hawk... or any large brake pad manufacturer. They are much larger than the OEM Honda brake pads. From what I recall, I think the pads for the Wilwood Superlite IIA are quite cheap as the caliper is very popular in the aftermarket as far as brake calipers go. For me, I've been reasonably satisfied with the Wilwood Type D pads (although they're gone after 10K miles), although my next set will be the Porterfield R4S for my FB/Wilwood Superlite IIA calipers.

Anyone put in the proportional brake balance valve yet? These Wilwoods have shifted the braking bias a little more to the front...

I have the 11 front with the wilwood cal and I just got race rear pads it will make the braking bias real close to what you would like.

Define race rear pads. What pads are you using?

Iuse the R4 race pads but I have been thinking about using KFP ones. I was told that they make the pads for Portfield,And they also have a pad for the rear that has a higher Cf for more brake bias.

What about temps. Do they still work when cold. It seems to me it might be hard to get a race pad up to temp on the rears.

I do not know about temps BUT there is a very big difference with or without the race pads. I would not use Hawk Blues in the back but other pads work very good back there. The R4 and the R4S pads work well on the street or track. I would first try the R4S and if you would like a little more rear brake get the R4 race pads. Also I have this set up on my Crx with a LS-vtec swap. Short wheel base and a little more weight up front then stock.

Hunter,

Both calipers are new, I just used them for test fitting purposes. The one has a little material taken off the underside as I was testing a new rotor hat. One has the silver spacer and one the black cause they started plating the spacers...both will work just fine. Sorry about that I should have told you...
everything's been cleared up. it's all good! for fastbrakes
