Weird A/C & temp issues
Hello!
I live in Florida and it is HOT. I can NOT not have AC.
This just started a day or two ago - the ac blows hot while driving or accelerating and cold when at complete stop. I checked freon charge and it showed OK (actually Walmart said it was).
Another issue just started today and I'm not sure if they are related.....
Boyfriend drove the car to work (about 20 minute ride) and called to tell me he smelled "something hot" and checked temp gauge - said it was all the way on H.... *facepalm*
EDIT: 1998 Civic 2 door automatic
We got this car from a friend. He did some "work" on it himself.
There is no thermostat. O2 sensors aren't connected. And there's a metal Bobby pin used as a jumper in a wire plug (passenger side toward the rear) - he said that's to make the fans run. ?¿?¿
Any ideas as to the cause of the ac issue and it now overheating? (Besides the fact it's got a major honky hookup done in the engine)

Yes you need to resolve the overheating before thinking about running the A/C. A car that overheats with the A/C on has something wrong and it is very close to overheating with it off as well.
Since the rigging has at least managed to rule out the thermostat and fan, likely causes remain lack of coolant, clogged radiator (gunk in the water side or bugs / dust in the air side, also look for detached fins on the outside, it must be replaced when that happens), and of course leaky head gasket.
Intermittent cooling from the A/C is not caused by lack of refrigerant. If it gets cold sometimes, there must be enough. The main reason for intermittent cooling is that the compressor doesn't always engage because the clutch gap is too wide, or there is a (gasp) "electrical problem." If the compressor is engaged but sometimes no cold air (and other times OK) that is usually a balky expansion valve getting stuck closed. Like any intermittent problem, diagnostic checks are only meaningful if done during a time when it is not working.

Thanks everyone.
The temp setting for the ac is already on cold and it's blowing as hot as outside air.
I'm gonna go have it checked tomorrow.
I'm probably gonna find where those loose hanging connectors belong and hook em up how they belong too (and install a thermostat).
Thanks guys. I'll update when I find out
