Hello all my father has a 95 civic and it has a rough idle or will stall when you start it (cold or hot) until the check engine light comes on then it runs fine but the gas mileage has gone south. It all started when he went threw a big *** puddle any ideas

 

Did you pull the code for the MIL?

 

No I don't think he has is there a way to do it without a reader

 

Super easy on EG civics - if you google "how to pull CEL codes for EG civic" it'll show you with pictures. Its located in the passenger side kick panel, you will need to find a connector, I believe its green, but I haven't had a EG civic in 10 years, so it may not be and you jump it with a paperclip. Then once the paperclip is in the connector you turn the key to accessory 2 setting, and count the blinks.

The problem could be anything but if you can retrieve the code from the ECU you'll have the answer or at least be pointed in some direction.
