F22b2 head swap with either h22 or h23
Hey guys im new to the forum and ive been doing some interesting research. I have a 97 accord lx, and currently its not making enough power to suit me. Ive really liked the idea of a Frankenstein motor, but i wanna do it the right way, this is going to be a long term project and money isnt really an issue for me. I was thinking, since the h22 or h23 head ( not sure which to go with, which would give me more gains?) Has a 87mm bore, im gonna have my f22 block bored out to 87mm with new wet iron sleeves and install forged internals throughout ( good brands to go with would be helpful) i know id need the prelude IM, headers, distributor, timing belt. Ive heard about using Arp head studs, are they the best? I want this build to be reliable. I also plan on putting a turbo in this build, what are some good brands for turbos? And is there a way i can calculate the compression im going to get before I do the build. Sorry im asking alot of questions, i know my way around and mostly inside and out of my honda, but this is my first real engine build. Also i want to convert to a manual transmission, what transmission would be best to get to handle the new hp and torque. im open to all suggestions. Im very determined to do this build, so what are guys opinions on it?
If money isn't an issue wouldn't it be easier to just buy an H22a or H23a (vtec) and swap the engine? My opinion is it's not really worth it, especially if you're planning on sleeving the block anyways. The only real reason to do this is to get the DOHC head on a block with Iron sleeves (F block) for boost. But if you're going to sleeve the F block? Replace all the internals? Pointless, just sleeve an H22 block and build that and be done with it.
To be honest the only time this swap really makes sense is if you have a short block an old H22 head laying around the workshop, or if you want a boosted DOHC without sleeving a block.
It's been written up in the FAQ under "G23 build".
