89 DX Auto Transmission Install
I pulled the engine/transmission out of our 89 DX to change the timing belt, replace the oil pan gasket, replace the rear main seal, and clean everything up. When I go to reinstall the automatic transmission, are there any tricks I should know about before installation? Does the torque converter go back onto the flexplate in the same orientation that it was when I took it off? Does the torque converter go back onto the transmission without having to worry about engaging a pump or anything? This is my first major experience with this vehicle, but so far everything has been okay.
I ask the questions about the transmission reinstall because I used to have an automatic in my '65 Mustang. The torque converter had to be spun onto the transmission until one heard three clicks which meant that the converter was engaged onto the pump. The converter also would fit onto the flexplate only one way.
