So I'm slowly trying to do small things to my R to bring it back to a somewhat respectable state, lol. I got around to taking apart my center console in hopes to get my retractable cup holder, retracting in and out more smoothly, and to put back my cig lighter for some reason it had come loose and popped out of place, probably b/c of my stupid hard race mounts vibrating the heck out the car. I got the lighter back in place, and the cup holder was gunked up from years of spilled soda and whatever else. So thats working smoothly once again. So while I had the center console apart, I also remove the shift boot and its surround and cleaned those, man they were gunked up as well.

Anyways, this jogged my memory that I have a light in the ashtray and in the glove box!! LOL! its been years since the bulbs have burned out that I totally forgot about them. I searched for the ashtray bulb size and from what I see it was a #74 bulb. I ordered, they arrived try to install, and its a no go. The #74 bulb wedge base is like 1mm too wide for the socket. See the attached pic. And I don't want to force it.

Can anyone confirm what size if the stock bulb? All google leads to is that its a 74 size bulb, and one guy on amazon saying the same thing I am. lol

I know its such small, minute thing, but I've already started digging, so now I can't stop till I get this accomplished, lol.

There is some faint print on the burned out bulb, I think it says 14V 1.4W. I can't find this bulb in the parts diagram. But I see another part number for another bulb on the same diagram: 35505-TA5-A51, but I just won't know if it fits until I see it in person. In the diagram its callout #49.

 

Maybe buy the sylvania equivalent?

 

I ordered the bulb, 35505-TA5-A51. Just waiting for it to arrive. But I plan on stopping buy advance auto and compare the burned out bulb to 2721. There is a voltage and wattage difference between the two, but shouldn't matter, just may be dimmer. The Honda bulb is 14V 1.4W and the 2721 I think is 12V 1.2W. Thanks for the suggestion!

 

It's the same if you calculate current draw (Wattage divided by voltage).

 

Thats so sad, I didn't even come to think of that even though I have a B.S. in electrical eng. technology, lol!

But I received the bulb the other day and it fits perfectly, so the Honda part# above is the correct one. I didn't have time to go to advance auto and compare the 2721 bulb.

 

I thought it was a 74 but a lot of bulbs seem to be interchangeable like 194/168, 1156/2056/DE3496, DE3175/DE2021/DE2022 or whatever.

 

Hard to tell from my pic, but the 74 bulb (the one on the left in the pic) was a bit too wide in the base, its kind of hard to tell in the pic, but it would not fit into the socket.
