Stuck at $31k for a couple of days. No way this reaches $40k, right?

Don't even care about prices anymore. I have a chitbox that I enjoy 10 times more then a caR that sits in the garage. Most of us can't afford these cars anymore.

It's crazy how these cars vary so much in price depending on market. In Ireland where I am they don't sell at the equivalent of 6000 dollars. Ads in the local classifieds and car sales sites stay up for months and months. The difficulty in importing into the US market clearly has an effect. In years to come - and it's not that far off - when these hit the age where they can be brought into the US as a "vintage" it'll be interesting to see how that hits the pricing. I suspect guys paying 45 k and the like are not making good investments.

http://vancouver.craigslist.ca/van/cto/5665288639.html A RHD 96 for $5100 USD

RHD JDM cars in Canada do not have a strong resale and sell for far less than that a LHD equivalent.

The biggest reason is driving a RHD car in a LHD country is more difficult in certain situations such as passing and left turns. (I had an 89 GTR)

Many cars that have been imported here have questionable modifications, are in poor condition and have unknown accident history.

USA is a much bigger market but I can tell you that collectors want original cars from their own country.

Oh sure T. I meant Euro market LHD examples. Though like many of these 90's Japanese fast cars they have gone down a lot in numbers on the road.

Take a look at production figures of E30 M3s worldwide and you'll see that has no effect on US prices. It's safe to say the USDM ITR market will not be diluted.

Good point and very interesting PB27. I find myself endlessly fascinated over what constitutes "value". It's an interesting subject. In fairness I don't get out much. Hell, I'm still at the stage of being amazed I can have an oul chat with a dude from Honolulu. And I'm on the interwebs since the mid 90's.

Supply and demand and also the car's heritage/history determine value. It's really subjective.

Gotta admit, the interwebz is definitely good for seeing what's going on at the other side of the pond.

$25k for a low mile 98 ITR? That's a slap in the face.

No one wants a RHD car in the USA. Maybe as a track toy, but that'll be about it.

And all the examples from across the seas will have higher mileage. Not like a slew of 10K mile cars are going to show up.

Also remember that north america never got all of the hot hatches that Europe and Japan did. That has an effect as well on why they are valuable here. North America got *one* Type R, period. Europe got an Accord Type R, Civic R, Integra R, etc...and not just one generation, either.

Granted. That's the biggest issue of all. There are the EDM LHD examples, though they may be even rarer and harder to source than the US ones. Some like the special edition Swiss ones with yellow interiors are daftly rare.

This reasoning I'm far less sure of. Americans drive around double the number of miles per year on average compared to say the French or the English and commute distances are much shorter on average. Low milage Japanese market cars are remarkably common. Not just with "special" cars either. I've seen ancient Nissan Micras and the like go through Japanese auctions with < 5000 Km's on the clock.

True and yes I agree that will have an impact alright. You can already see it with the daft prices some North American buyers are willing to pay for JDM parts. The cars are seen as rare and expensive so the assumption follows the cars/parts from the rest of the world also have a premium. What might happen if the car becomes a sought after classic is that imports will be the go to option for those who can't afford the premium of USDM examples. It's a little ironic that the most valuable Integra Type R's of all might turn out to be the USDM models, which were the cheapest specification of any market. Canada's market might be a good judge. IIRC they can already bring in JDM and other examples. Has it hit the value of the "local" CDM cars?

I wonder will a collector of the future ever try to assemble the different market models? A Swiss special in Yellow would be nice with a 98 spec JDM in yellow and a USDM in yellow. I did know a chap fairly local to me that had a UKDM in white and a JDM in red.

I am in in BC Canada where there are plenty of RHD cars.

RHD cars do not have a big effect on CDM car pricing.. There are many people here who simply refuse to drive RHD here. Also Canadian and US nostalgic buyers and collectors generally want the USDM / CDM front end.

If I was collecting ITRs I would want a milano red, a swiss one with yellow interior, a 97 CW and an 01 CDM
