H4A gear engagement delay. 1990-1997.
Noticed a bit of a delay in gear engagement recently. Changed the fluid, trans tune added as well, this helped quite a bit. While I had the car in the air, hood open, engine on, verifying all the circuits were charged and the sump full, there was a bit of a delay from the electrical side of the gear engagement.
Select a gear and there was an initial feel of a gear engagement, then there was a moment (+1') before the solenoids audibly clicked and then the gear engaged. This was for all gears as well. For a while I thought the accumulators/seals were getting old, but once the solenoids click the gears engage pretty quickly.
It might be my gear selector switch is getting gummed up, 310K miles will do that, so I have yet to take it apart to inspect and clean.
Anyone else notice a delay in solenoid activation when changing gears?
Doesn't seem to be a spec on time delay for when the gear is selected, or acknowledged, to when the solenoid(s) is activated.
*Did the basic checks, batt, grounds, cables, connections, everything seemed fine, didn't carbon pile test the battery.*
