Default Temperature gauge reading

1990 Accord. Does the temp. reading shown in the pic look normal? Seems a bit cool to me. Some talk about normal being a tick below horizontal, mine looks more like 3 or 4 ticks below.

Both pics show the same reading.

Yours seems pretty normal to me. I've owned many cb7s. Tell me this. If you drive does the temperature gauge go down? And does it go up to normal operating temperature when at idle? If so you need a new thermostat. But that looks pretty normal to me. If it's a auto trans is the torque converter locking up? Otherwise if it's locking up and tempature holds steady then your good to go. If it's a auto then post a picture with the trans indicator in the picture where it shows on the dash gear your in and I'll be able to tell you for sure if it's the correct temperature.

As long as it reaches operating temp and stays steady you're fine.

Cool. I was hoping it looked ok. No, the needle doesen't go down while I'm driving. It rises nice and slow and stays steady. I haven't thought of letting it reach temperature just sitting at idle. I'm sure it does. I'll try that tomorrow morning. Cool man, thanks. I think I'm ok.

This old '90 has tons of problems. I'm sure I'm leaking oil and! coolant into my combustion chamber(s), with the classic bubbles in the reservoir sign. It's gotta be why I'm getting intermittent hard starts, -- crap in the chamber(s). On hards starts it always cranks over the same 3-4 seconds before it fires up, -- just enough time to exit out the crap. Most of the time it cranks right up, but sometimes I can feel the engine 'gurgle' a bit, then it smooths out. Yup, smooths out after the crap in the chamber(s) exits, lol. I'm not a mechanic, but I have driven old used cars all my life, doing what I can to keep them going at low cost & taking guesses at what might be wrong.

My 91 Integra had the same problem with a pinhole head gasket coolant leak. Started out pinhole size and had eventually gotten worse. It lasted 5 years with that pinhole leak. Every morning and sometimes during the day I'd have to put the coolant overflow from the reservior back into the radiator and even add some more cooant, .. for 5 years! po boy blues

And don't let me get going about this power steering leakage from my steering box. It especially leaks when it's cold - seal shrinkage. This started last winter. I'm hesitant to put that Lucas Stop Leak in it, but I might. Right now I'm looking like MAD MIKE does in his profile picture.

This '90 also needs a front end rebuild, .. maybe I'll just buy a commuter bike.

197,000 miles, standard.

Lol your cb7 sounds like it needs some work. You should go to cb7tuner website for better help. If you take the radiator cap off and run your car 10-15 minutes bleed the system and you still see bubbles after 10 mins or so that is a sign of a head gasket problem. My 90 has a bad head gasket and still starts instantly even after sitting for weeks sometimes even months no hesitation. But I got a Bosch platinum battery in the car. Sometimes mine will have a rough idle for 10-20 seconds then clears up from the head gasket leak.
