97 Accord Switching between normal and limp mode-please advise
Hello. Thanks for having this forum. I have a 97 accord that went into limp mode for about 40 miles which included the 24 mile-trip home when it fist began to "limp"about 7 low-speed in town 2-mile round trips. Next time i started it--expecting to see the flashing indicator light around the "D" and it ran fine--shifting gears--for about 3 trips and 12 miles--then next start it went into limp--shut the car off restarted---ran fine for a mile, then went into limp. A few short low speed trips in limp mode followed. Now it's running normal in town.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Thanks for the response. I am not a great mechanical mind, but if memory serves me correctly a few weeks ago when the car initially went into limp, my local mechanic pulled the codes and referenced what he called the Murray programs that he subscribes to. He said the top two fixes are shift solenoid and a major transmission issue with the major issue being the most common fix...and estimated that if it was just the solenoid it would be between 3-400 bucks.
Now that the car is working "ok" at times then going back into limp, does that increase the likelihood that it is the solenoid?
Thank you!

Do you remember the actual codes that he pulled? P0146, P1432???
How do you know that it is in Limp mode? Is the CEL light on and you are unable to raise the RPM over 3000?
I would say that you should have the codes read again and ask what the codes are and write them down. I have never heard of the "Murray programs". Honda OBDII codes are easily accessible online for free, no need to subscribe to any programs.
If you can post up the codes we might be able to help you a bit faster!
If you don't have access to a scan tool you can use the paperclip method to read the codes yourself. CEL/MIL code reading via Paper clip

What I am calling limp mode is when the green indicator light surrounding the D that indicates the car is in Drive is blinking and the car is stuck in one gear that keeps the car under 2500 rpm's...sound right or am i way off? Thanks.
