Quick question. Where does the starter relay get its power from?
Does it come from the main relay? I've tried searching diagrams as well. Can't seem to find a definitive answer.

Power for the starter relay comes from the ign. switch, [starter lead] it supplies the relay and the relays coil, ground for the relays coil is supplied by the CIS, [clutch interlock switch] high up on the clutch peddle. 94

 

So here's my problem. I turn the key to start and I hear both relays click under the dash. The car doesn't crank over. If I leave the key in the start position and lift the clutch pedal up and down eventually the car will start. Then the problem kinda goes away because some days it will start right up and maybe once or twice I'll have to play with the pedal or it will take like a second or two with the key in the start position then it will crank over.
Here's what I've trouble shot so far.
I bypassed clutch switch and the problem still exists.
Changed starter relay.
It's not the starter because it's new.
I ruled out the ignition switch because I have autostart and it does it when I try to autostart.
The last thing I suspect is the battery, but I even tried jump starting it and it still didn't crank. I took it to autozone and they said it's good and I had them test it inside as well and both checked out good.
What have I missed. I've searched around. I really don't want to buy a new battery if the problem will still exist.

You have a problem with CIS, [clutch interlock switch] replace it, or bypass it, jump the plug.

As I mentioned the CIS supplies the ground to the starter relays coil, it sounds like it is intermittently defective.

I don't mean to be rude but did you read what I have done.
The switch is jumped and the problem exists. I also changed it just in case but I didn't mention it because jumping it should have solved the problem...

 

Sorry missed that part, although not sure how.

With playing with the clutch getting it to work kind of points to the CIS, I jumped to a conclusion, [assumed].

Try the bypass jump when it will not start with the key, if that works, then do the other things in the link to trace where the problem is. 94

 

Starter relay in the center console or the starter solenoid? If you have an OE Manual trans car - not a swap - there is a relay in the "center console/dash".

Yes, pretty sure the attached scanned upside down from the paper service manual I have for the 95 Accord.

 

Well I tested the lead wire into the solenoid and I get 12 volts all the time. The starter is new. So when I do have the problem I hear the main relay and starter relay click then I hear the starter solenoid click as well.
The thing is starter is new. I'll try the ground testing with the test light.
Also might I add I mention this before if I turn the key to to start sometimes it will take like a solid second or 2 before it cranks.
Also since I have autostart (which the clutch switch is bypassed by the way)
It does the same thing that the engine wont crank and i hear the starter solenoid click. That's how I eliminated the ignition switch as being bad because autostart the ignition switch isn't even engaged into the start position.
It's a little gremlin I have somewhere and I will find the bastard.
I'll get back after I do the test light test.

It likely has to do with that autostart thing you have.

 

i've been through the FSM on the starting system and ignition switch. it's a very straight forward system. there is an extra relay under the console (in my 94) next to the main relay. WHT/RED feeds a 4 wire relay that then feeds to the BLK/WHT wire that feeds the solenoid. you could bypass 12v at the BLK/WHT wire to see if you're getting a direct feed to the solenoid. that would basically mean you have to backtrack towards the ignition side of things.

 

I've had autostart for like 3 years with no issues until now....

If you mean it does the same thing when doing a bypass jump, [solenoid clicks but takes time for starter to crank] the problem is the starter motor, even if new, replace it.

So it turned out to be the starter. I took my starter to get it tested and of course it passed, 3 times but I bought another one because they didn't want to exchange it because they claimed it's still good.
So I put the new good one in and it cranks all the time no problems at all. I went to another parts store and returned the "good faulty" starter and got my money back.
So lesson learned even though the part is new swap it out and see.
