power to manuel steering
I was just wondering what is involved in changing from power steering to manuel. Is it more then just removing the pump, fluid and everything else? Any info you can give is appreciated. Oh its on a D16z6 if it matters

To do the swap right you'll need to swap the whole rack from any non-P/S Civic. You'll have to modify the U bracket on the passenger side though because the P/S stock rack is fatter than the non P/S rack.

Assuming this is for a del Sol, I did the exact same thing - power steering on a D16 to manual steering (ok, so it was when I put in the B series). Anyway, just buy a del Sol "S" complete manual steering rack, pinion, STEERING JOINT and boots/tie rod ends/etc from a junk yard. Replace the steering boots if necessary (do it before you put it in the car!!).
First, pull ALL the power steering equipment out. Pump, reservoir, that funky cooler line, flex line, rack and pinion. You'll also pull the tie rod ends out with the rack. I presume you could reuse them (I didn't).
The reason I highlighted the STEERING JOINT is that the power steering pinion is "fatter" than the manual one, so if you try to use the power steering joint on the manual rack, you can tighten it, but it won't "mesh", and then you can't steer. Which sucks.
You'll have to get an alignment too.
You'll save weight, and gain a couple of ponies due to less parasitic drag.
I've done this on my del Sol Si, and a friend's del Sol VTEC. Its helpful if you have a second person when you're pulling the rack out. You kinda have to push it to one side of the car, tilt it down and then pull it out. Its tight, but you can do it on jackstands (BE SAFE!!).

Well, I'm not 100% positive, but I believe my manual steering setup off my '94 cx will bolt right up. I changed to a power setup when I did my swap. I have everything, rack, crossmember, bolts, brackets, tierods, etc. Let me know if you are interested. It's in good shape. I enjoyed it, but with the amount of driving I do and parking I took the lazy mans way out. Definitely better feel with the manual setup. Here are some pictures.

I've just been wondering, how does it feel with the manual steering rack, compared to just having the belt off? I know alot of people that run it without the belt......including myself

I'm pretty sure that's what I did (too many brain cells killed with beer since then). Because of the rack diameter difference (fat vs thin) you need to use something to stuff between the U bracket and the rack to get a good tight fit. I believe there was some rubber "lining" in the manual rack U bracket that I put into the power rack U bracket, doubling up the thickness of rubber there. That worked well for me.

I liked the feel of the manual rack. Definitely get more input from the road. I haven't run with the PS belt off so I can't compare it to that.
