I'm looking to buy a 95 Accord with an F20B swap. Guy says it has the Honda dance problem, where the idle jumps from 1000 to 1250. He says its the Thermal check valve on the intake and he'll be including another intake with a new valve so i can replace it. That's the only thing that has me worried. Says the AC isn't working cause he never charged it after doing the swap. Just needed a little insight before I go and test drive this thang. What to look for and such.

The ECU cuts off injection when the throttle body is fully closed and engine rpm is lower than a specific number. When you have excess air into the manifold, the IACV can't lower the rpm. When it reaches to a specific number (for example, 1250rpm) the ECU cuts the fuel and the rpm decreases to a another specific number (for example, 1000rpm) and resumes fuel injection (This is a fuel economy trick). The only thing you have to do is to calibrate the air entering the manifold. First, check leakage. Then go for the brass screw which is located on top of the throttle body. Close it enough to get a stable idle. Then, go for the butterfly valve stopper, which is a small allen screw with a nut. It has a yellow paint on it. If the paint is removed, it has been modified and should be calibrated.
Just a note to adjusting the throttle body manually. You shouldn't have to adjust the idle air screw or throttle stop screw in a PGM-FI controlled chassis. If your idle is high, low or bouncing there is another issue involved that should be resolved. It has been my personal experience that playing with the idle air mixture manually usually just hides the underlying issue(s). When left in disrepair, will more than likely worsen with time.
The Honda idle surge is a very common one. It is usually caused by a vacuum leak, malfunctioning IAC/FIT valve or dirty throttle body. It can also sometimes be attributed to low coolant or a malfunctioning/disconnected engine coolant temp sensor. Ether way It is usually a fairly easy and inexpensive fix.
• Check vacuum hoses, cracked, missing or disconnected
• Check for vacuum leaks around all gasket and seal areas on the intake manifold and throttle body, including the fuel injection area.
• Clean the throttle body, IAC and FIT valves
• Check coolant system for air/bleed the system
• Test/Check the ECT sensor
If I remember correctly there is a pretty good DIY in the FAQ as to how to clean the TB, IAC and FIT valves.
Cool thanks. Bottom line, if the only thing I notice is the surging rpm idle then I shouldn't be worried about any major damage? What are some noticeable signs that it has damage beyond repair? Cracked block or something.

That's not a bad price. I am a little concerned with what he told you about the Surging issue. Pretty much any Honda owner that has changed their own coolant knows about the surging Idle. I wouldn't count on the maintenance or other modifications being up to spec. Just do a through walk around to make sure what he says is true. Check the stamp on the block and check the motor. Maybe its f22 with a h22a head. just double check it. Listen to the engine for any knocking sounds, make sure the acceleration is smooth, I would say listen for a smooth idle but obviously that's an issue already.
The car has already been modified so most likely you will find short cuts and work around's done in areas like wiring. If your not familiar with Honda's and fixing stuff just start reading the forums, there is a lot of information to soak in.
The 45k miles statement is always a little iffy, you never know how many miles are on the engine really.
Check to make sure the coils are skunk 2 and not red ebay coilovers. Skunk2 will say skunk 2 on the spring.
