P29-T50 ecu- tuning solutions and auto to manual
I'm planning an auto to manual conversion on an OBD 1 JDM P29-T50 ecu, that is running a D16A9 ( twin of the ZC DOHC )
been through all the internet available details, can someone technically explain how this " Remove RP 17 and jumper RP18 " works on OBD1 ecus?
is it true that these ecus are "switchable" auto to manual be re-arranging the jumper config. allowing the ecu to function completely as manual?
on tuning solutions.
your idea on a socket/chip/software package that can work with this ECU?

For automatic to manual conversion, in the 2nd photo, on the bottom right, remove RP17 and install it in position RP18. This will remove code 19 and possibly turn off the the check engine light if you don't have any more codes. This however does not alter the fuel and timing tables and will still run the engine as an automatic - economical and efficient ( = slow)
If you want to modify the program to take advantage of your modifications, any standard OBD1 chipping kit will work. If you also want to run a VTEC cylinder head, any 1720 conversion kit will also work.
xenocron.com or moates.net have the kits but if you are overseas, shipping can be expensive so try to buy locally.
Good luck!

rrivera, thanks for your response!, you mentioned something interesting, RP17 and move it to RP 18?, that is because its a zero ohm resistor already correct?
as part of the conversion , i will jump the shift position indicator to make the ecu think its always in park, would that affect the ignition and timing tables? i mean the ecu going through the manual gears while its getting a park signal
some info floating around from people who did this auto to manual on the P28 and they claim the auto to manual maps are identical?
on chipping kits, from what you see this is a USMD through hole mount kit or JDM surface mount?

Correct

Are you replacing the automatic transmission with a manual? The only reason to jump the shift position indicator is to allow you to start the car since it has to be in PARK or NEUTRAL

Map will stay as an automatic until you chip the ECU ans replace the programming

USDM ECUs use through hole chipping kits.

rrivera,
if the principles you are saying apply to any OBD1 ecu, can i just buy any manual OBD1 ecu that has been professionally chipped with a ZC DOHC file loaded on it?
do you offer such a service? or know a trust worthy source?

Correct but if you have a VTEC cylinder head, you need a VTEC ECU or aside from chipping a non-VTEC ECU, you also have to convert it to VTEC

Yes but I am not allowed to solicite on the forum since I'm not a sponser
