Hey guys just got done rebuilding my head and having it milled. Ran into some timing issues a few days later and the car became a dragged down dog (no power, no acceleration, died 200 ft before my dads house when I went to fix it. Did some research and advanced the camshaft 2 teeth on the cam gear. Timing is ***** on and Car runs perfect. But one condition was immediately present afterwards.

Hunting idle! Here's how it works.

Coming to a stop the idle hunts for 4-9 sweeps and cleans up to about 750rpm(100 more than I'd like). If I rev up a little bit, idle hunts again and cleans up.

Air has been bled from the cooling system as far as I know. But if there's another procedure could someone please provide link?

With the symptoms I've presented where would my first diagnostic take place?

Try cleaning the IACV, FITV, and throttle body.

CEL codes?

 

Ive had a hunting idle problem for over 6 months now and i still havent figured it out. I found my heater core and waterpump were actually leaking so I thought I found the source of my problem. I bleed the coolant and still idles surging haha.

Ron j is there an idle relearn for 5th gens?

 

After you reset the ECU, just drive the car. The ECU will relearn the idle setting.

 

Thanks for the quick reply RonJ. Should I proceed with cleaning each element, resetting ECU after each task until problem is resolved? Or do it all and then reset ECU?

No CEL showing should I test for hidden codes?
