Default 97 DX 5 lug swap and rear rotor conversion

Hey guys, iv read a few threads on 5 lug conversions on the 94-97 accords and iv got the basic idea on what to do there, but my car is a DX and has drums in the rear not rotors, so my question is, what do i need to change the rear brakes to rotors as well as a 5 lug set up?

Thanks in advance guys!

Just so it's clear, you want to:

1. Convert from drum to rotor

and also

2. Convert from 4 to 5 lugs.

You do not want to convert to 5 lugs and keep the drums, right?

This should be something easily researched. Boom, first result on google.

Drum to disc conversion on a 96 Honda (1/1) - EricTheCarGuy - EricTheCarGuy- Stay Dirty!

There's half your answer, 4-5 lug swaps are something commonly discussed as well. Seek, and ye shall find my brother of the great H!

There are a few broken links in the FAQ at the top of the page, our FAQ actually contains helpful information. Not the generic 'how to use the forum' nonsense. But that should net you a good start.

Google is a good place to continue to search. Use '1995 Honda Accord 5 lug conversion' as your search term. Accordtune.com will most likely pop up. Accordinglydone.com is dead.

Easiest for the front would be to locate complete 98-02 Accord V6 5 lug front knuckles complete with brakes.
For the rear you will want the trailing arms/knuckle/caliper/hoses/prop valve/MC from a 94-97 Accord Coupe/Sedan. Rear wheel bearings from a 97-01 Prelude, and rear rotors from a 98-02 V6 Accord 5lug.

Or for the front, Odyssey front knuckles, although the 95-98 Odyssey seems to be a little harder to find these days. On the rear, the trick is to get the Prelude hub to fit on the rear spindle with enough threads to seat the nut properly. What worked for me was to use the Gen 5 knuckle, replace the spindle in the knuckle with one from a 98-02 (4 or 6 doesn't matter) and put a .100 washer under the nut (or between the back of the knuckle and the spindle when it is pressed in). Fits great. Lots of other things you can do, but maybe a little more than you want to do right now.

I used the Prelude rear hub, it will not use all of the threads but you can still lock it in place with a little deeper notch in the nut. I have been driving on it for about 3 years with no issues.

If you are lowered you may want to pick up the Skunk 2 uppers to get good camber adjustment.

I spent a lot of time removing rust from my front spindles then painting them with High temp paint. The first time a bit of break cleaner touched them it ruined the paint. I think next time ill definitely man up and send them for powder coating.

I have done this conversion on my 96 accord LX back in 09 and had some helpful info on the accordinglydone forum, but sadly that site is now long gone.

Fronts:
I used a complete pair of 95-98 Odyssey front knuckles (knuckle, caliper, rotors) straight swap was easy peasy. This converts you to rotor over hub (ROH) which is exactly what civic/integra's use.

Rears:
Purchased a complete rear disc brake conversion (w/brake lines & hand brake lines) from someone parting out a wrecked 94-97 Accord EX

Purchased a pair of 97-01 Prelude rear 5 lug hubs

1 pair of 02-06 RSX rear rotors (reason rsx rotors: the inner hat diameter is large enuff to clear the prelude's outer hub diameter vs. Integra-R rear rotors; ITR rotors will make contact with the prelude hub edge)
Note: 97-01 prelude rear rotors will not work as their hat height is too shallow for accord rear disc brake use because of the caliper offset.

1 pair of low profile 32mm axle nuts from a Mazda protege -- prelude/accord rear stub axle nuts are too tall and will create interference not allowing you to reinstall the axle nut cover.

I haven't gotten around to it but I plan to swap a DA integra 4040 prop valve on someday. I'm not sure what prop valve specs come stock on my LX, will find out some day lol.

Any luck ever finding a 1in MC that would work with the DX/LX prop valve brake lines? I noticed the ports on the MC for the EX models are M12x1 and M10x1. I tried finding the prelude MC with a 1in bore and both ports with M10x1 fittings but no joy.

One thing to note on wagons with rear disc. You still need to get the whole trailing arm from a coupe/sedan. The disc brake wagon rear "axle" shaft is a larger diameter than the coupe and sedan one. SO the Prelude hub does not work.

SO for OP, make sure you grab the complete rear disc trailing arm off a coupe or sedan, not another wagon. Otherwise, everything Katman posted is correct.

I'm not saying not to look at an Odyssey... but I'm saying to look at an Odyssey

Honda made the rear spindle larger on Wagon for a very good reason.
