Default Picking up 99-104 from Canada to SoCal

i have been looking for a R for a while but my wants made it very difficult to find something i would actually see myself owning. here is what i was looking for

original paint
all matching body Vins
original engine and trans
color: i wanted a PY or a CW
lower mileage car preferred
clean title was a must

what did i end up with?
yes all body vins match
yes original engine and transmission
color is CW
it has 153K on it now (94-95k miles)
clean title never wrecked or stolen
also got OEM optionals and UKDM taillights and the owner was nice enough to buy a timing belt and water pump (and planned on having it installed for me) i told him to ust toss the parts in the trunk and i would do it myself

the story:
about 2-3 months ago i came across this 99 Type R in Canada and asked the seller a few questions but for some reason i decided to back away from it .. a week goes by and i tell my friend to buy it because he is a collector but his hands are tied with a purchase of another car and he passes on it .. so one night i was searching and came across this car again and kinda decided that if it was still available i would make a offer so i emailed him and after a few back and forth questions i decided i wanted it (little did i know i was actually interviewing to purchase the car i guess the previous owner turned away some buyers because he didn't care for them or something they said) so i started reading all about importing a car and it seemed impossible but i found a thread on some NSX forum that said it is possible so i contacted that guy and he walked me through what i needed to do and even gave me a few links to prove what he was saying was correct. the process took about a month and at one point the seller even wondered if i was still interested in buying it because it was taking so long but little did he know i was calling every day trying to speed them up on providing the compliance letter finally after a month i got it and i needed to decide if i was going to drive my truck and trailer to get it or would i fly there and drive it home i finally decided to drive it home and it did not disappoint the roads from Kelowna to Socal were great one of the most fun drives i have ever had here are some of the pics hope you enjoy them .. please understand i was by myself and its hard to take quality pictures while driving

this was the last time the previous owner drove the car (also the first time i ever saw it in person)

at this point she was mine just went back to the hotel for a quick shower then head out of town

i stopped by the local Acura dealer in Kelowna to buy 2 quarts of oil just in case for the ride home and all the salesmen came running to the car before i was even able to get out of it to ask questions about it i broke their hearts when i told them the car was leaving to America within the next hour or two

some of the beautiful roads on the way out of Canada

Quick stop at home depot to try and stop the rock chips and sand from beating my paint up

at this point i was already in the USA i think it was called soap lake

then a few hours later this happened .. its hard to see but the oregon state trooper pulled me over but ended up letting me go

fuel stop ..

Lunch stop in Grants Pass Oregon but still keeping a eye on heR

the calm before the storm

and here she is in her new garage

Very nice pick up.

This is the second '99 CDM R that I have seen in the USA with the same painted "INTEGRA" front and rear on the bumpers. Is it done like that factory or what?

Great writeup. Cool that you put the tape on the front end. Those roads look awesome.

Awesome thanks for the pics and story! Congrats!!

I think you did really well considering all matching VINs and no accidents / theft. That is amazing to me considering the age and mileage. I see it has some reversible mods but those can always be changed if needed.

Looks like JDM red Recaros? Can you comment on some of the mods?

PS my 01 CDM does not have the black painted "Integra" on the rear bumper.

They are not filled in stock. Owner probably did it himself.

condition
paint 8.5 out of 10
body very few dents maybe 3 dings that can be PDR'ed
engine very strong burned about a half quart in 1300 miles on the freeway at high rpm's (normal in my opinion)
interior pretty good shape rear seat has some fade carpet is good and came with checkered mats
undercarriage has NO corrosion very impressive for a car that has been in a snowy environment and shows that the previous owner was very honest with me
a previously stolen R usually has a slightly crooked steering column and this one checks out perfectly so i also believe its never been stolen

yes it has Jdm recaros (will be up for sale soon)
Kosei K1 wheels (will be up for sale soon)
Samco intake hose
Vibrant header
Apexi world sport 2 exhuast (will be for sale soon)
underdrive pulleys
p28 ecu not sure why they ran a p28 on what looks to me and drives to me like a stock motor
ricer door sills that said Type R on them (removed already)
ricer ebrake handle will get replaced

parts needed:
stock seats in good condition
OEM white or gunmetal wheels

plans for the car

mugen Gen1 wing -ICB Motorsports
Mugen Gen 1 exhuast -ICB Motorsports
wheels oem wheels and a set of mf-10's or a set of te-37's
just a over all deep cleaning of the car from front to back

the "painted" Integra on the front and rear bumper is actually a sticker i want to remove them but i kinda like it..

i dare to call this a unicorn/survivor because the things needed to put it back stock are so simple to do, and the motor and trans are untouched.. i wanted to track this car from time to time but the more i look at it i think i am going to find another R to drive/track and this one goes away for safe keeping and for some meets. i feel i got a fair price because most people didn't want to put in the work and deal with the uncertainty of not knowing if they would actually get the car and to be honest 24 hours before i was to fly i didn't know if i was going to be able to drive it home.. it was a very stressful 2 months for me because i overthink everything and look at all scenarios maybe that helped me in being able to get a compliance letter for a car that many said couldn't be done so i guess that was the trade off

guess it pays off to wait 10 years after being forced to sell your previous R because of theft in the area you lived

Are you going to get red or black seats when you go back to stock? Red ones seem to be pretty hard to find and expensive.

Let us know how it goes at dmv/smog etc.

Yes I do think it is a unicorn. All reversible mods.

RTW has some really nice OEM CW wheels you may want to consider.

Enjoy the hunt for parts!

Nothing, I showed all my paperwork I had all forms filled out for them and organized the agent even complemented me that I was more organized then some importers I paid my duty and left.. Took less then 15 minutes

Today I went to the DMV did the vin verification and everything is ready to complete registration I only need to smog it first and I will have the new plates so all my due diligence has paid off and the fruits of my labor are just a day or two away

Nice order of events. Congrats on the purchase. Sounds like you had a nice drive to feel the car out. Love the OEM restore you have planned.
