Not surprised. Most of these cars won't be driven or heard of again until they are sold again.
Would be pretty boring to own one....

I can't believe nobody has commented here on this car. Sold for $34,250.00 yesterday!!! I believe it sold for $18,500.00 here on Honda tech in late 2013. Craziness. Makes me wanna list my pristine 01-PY with 29k miles!! I would never guess $34 K though. Wow!
That's an amazing price for one.
It's low milage in very good condition and very importantly is in original stock condition so what the collectors always go for. When a car hits the "iconic classic" market those expensive aftermarket bits and bobs really hit the values.
Oh how different it can be in another market. Here in Ireland I'd reckon they're about the cheapest worldwide. There were a lot imported from Japan from the mid 90's to the early noughties when Japanese imports were a big thing here. Both countries RHD, far better condition used compared to local cars, usually better specced than domestic examples and notably cheaper. In say 2005 you'd be hard pressed to not see some very nice Japanese sports models every single day Type R's, DC2 and EK9 included. In 06 I was standing outside a city centre pub having a ciggie with a petrolhead I knew from Spain and his eyes were out on cartoon stalks at some of the machinery that was driving by.
Fast forward to today and they're largely gone. Economic downturn didn't help. Much increased import tax really didn't help. Big hikes in insurance priced the under 30's out. This last year or so a few of the main insurance companies are blanket refusing to cover cars over 10 or 15 years of age, while others are massively increasing premiums. Mine has more than doubled in the last year to not too far shy of 2000 dollars US. And I'm in my forties, clean licence, driving and insuring fast cars all my life etc. Only one company would even entertain me.
The upshot is when one comes up for sale the equivalent of 7000 dollars or less will get you one. I suspect less when it comes to bargaining with cash as such adverts stay up for many months. Last week an original Irish car(UKDM) minus the engine and front seats sold for 500 euro, so about 600 dollars? Yep. I know a couple of guys from the UK bought from here as they would be slightly more expensive there alright.
To give you an idea;
96 spec JDM for 5000 euro
98 Spec 00 for just shy of 7000
98 spec with some carbon goodies for the 5200 Euro

Great info **** thanks for sharing that. 500 euro shell wow!!
Kind of similiar to how Japan discourages ownership of old cars to encourage citizens to buy new and stimulate the economy. Lots of Japanese cars continue to come into Canada and other countries that have loose importing restrictions (15 years old). I am in Canada and I see RHD Type R, Delicas, kei trucks, Skylines, 180sx, Chasers, Celsior, Presidents etc on a regular basis
Prices of RHD in Canada generally stay low because only a small portion of buyers are willing to drive RHD.

Rolling shell with all the trimmings, wheels, suspension, interior etc. Bit of rust in the rear quarter so work required there. I dunno about the USDM, but the EDM and UKDM had a plastic liner in the rear arches to protect against rust, but only served to trap it. Doh!

On the import restrictions front, doesn't the US ease up after a car hits 20 years old? If so that could hit values of previously restricted classics. Though I suspect original standard cars will always catch a premium. I've seen this in some small ways already. EG original Teg air boxes were near throwaway items for a time as everyone and his dog stuck in aftermarket intakes. Original boxes were maybe a tenner, now 60-70 quid and upwards.
^ USA is 25 years
And yes USDM and CDM both have the rear fender liner trap as well. Both my quarters need work. One side still had the liner and that side has more corrosion.
