Default I'm gonna see a caR tonight

I've been waiting for 18 years to own one. The caR is the CDM red interior. It hasnt been driven in 4years. 87xxx km's.
Only mods are an intake adn is lowered on cusco zero 2's. No accidents all matching numbers including engine and tranny.

I'm a Honda mechanic by day yet I don't even know what to look for and where to begin. I afraid this car is going to get the best of me.

Game plan is to put everything back to original.

Car is not listed for sale but will sell for the right pirce. Just a referral from a friend.

Just a rant I needed to get off my chest.

Look for body filler
Depending on the area:rust
Dents
Nasty Oders
Radiator support damage due to accident
Engine/trans/shell all matching V.I.Ns
Get it started, Make sure it's bone cold. If all checks out, warm it up.
While running and warm open the oil cap check for excessive smoke caused my blow-by.
Make sure it's not salvaged or rebuilt title
Check the odo, if the numbers don't align up, possible roll back odo.

I did all these things when looking and all is fine now

Quick search I came up with this from another thread, can't link etc on my phone:

ts on top of the cover right where the black piece bolts it down to the top of the radiator support right? That black piece covers it if I'm not mistaken right?

I bought an 01 CDM ITR a few months ago. What city is it in?

Look for major items mentioned above. If you find any negotiate or pass. There aren't exactly a lot to choose from so be prepared to spend money on it.

Mine had some reversable mods and deferred maintenance. Some stock parts included. A couple thousand later mine is all stock and still needs a paint job. To me these cars are worth restoring.

Hope it works out for you!

Congratulations man! I've been dreaming about owning one for a while. I have never even drove one but I knew this is the car I would one day own.

So I saw the car last night. I havent seen the red interior in person. The car is 15 years old so I wasnt expecting the best. Long story short, all vins ok except the front bumper. I didnt know where it was. The interior looked like it was new. No fade at all on the seats. Event the damn shitfter was original. Armrest is mint. Badge is in tact.

The bad:

Stage 2 clutch - I hate the stiffness
AEM intake - no original airbox
Has a subwoofer box,amp and aftermarket deck - Ill yank it out
S2000 antenna - is there a delete for this?
Lowered on Cusco suspension 1 inch all around, decent height. What do you guys think of the suspension?
Front and rear bumper has scuffs - will paint it.

Maintenance is up to date, t-belt etc but Im going to flush all the fluids
Dunlop direzza all around at 9/32
Has AC
NO RUST

The car is just outside of Toronto.

Checked the carproof - clean title no theft no liens

I told him I need to see underneath the car so we set it up for Monday.

If it all goes well, Ill take it home same night.

Im negotiating -----

All in all needs work but Im ok with that. What do you all think?

I think this will be as close as Ill get to a fairly complete caR

Touringteg - totally agree with you. My plan is to restore it back to almost original and drive it for the summer. No car meets for me. Maybe the expo.

Seems strange, that car from what your suggesting should sell for $18k cdn+, easy.
Timing belt done at 80k? Weird
Aftermarket clutch? Weird
Seems like it was modded alot more than maybe you know

One sold here recently with similar condition and kms but aftermarket front end for 20k+ USD

Timing belt is 8yrs/160km. Clutch im not sure why it was changed. I will put the OEM clutch anyway.

The person who referred me was a childhood friend of the owner. He is also a good friend of mine. He vouches for him and I trust my friend so I am not too worried about it.

I wrench for a living at Honda. So all he mechanical stuff is ok. I just wanted a caR that is a good example to start with. I think another $1000 on top to revert things back and paint 2 panels and she'll be good. For whst its worth, I dont think theres really anything out of the ordinary that was done to the car.

The caR wont be a garage queen. It wont be at meets, etc. I bought to just drive it and maybe track it.

Thank you man. I hope so too.

I dont really see any driving around over here. And its kinda sad that people steal and butcher the car. I know its just a car but at the same time not really

I'd rather start with something like you described instead of starting with this:

I think I got lucky enough because I wanst really looking for it. I just mentioned it to my friend and he says he knew someone with a car. It was the first caR I looked at.

I would be really hard pressed to look at another one if I dont buy this car.

Funny my car was not publicly listed either. Only on a private fb group. It was my neighbour's car and friend's knew it's history.

Don't forget the ITR tax on parts is real. It's well know that these cars are becoming collector cars. Oem shift **** is $250 CAD at the dealer. Floor mats $400 CAD from one of the US dealers that still have stock.

14500 CAD with no rust is a steal. The seller doesn't know the market.

Lol, yeah the ITR tax. I'm fortunate enough that parts guys give me me actual cost plus 5% so its not as painful.

Everything just somehow lined up about this car. I was told about it last year. It wasnt until this week that I saw the car. Them I got the parking situation sorted out. Insurance was a big surprise. $121/month at an unbelievable 0 deductible.

I think "fate" had a hand in it and it came at a time in my life where everything is close to where I want them to be.

I really cant wait to finally drive this car man. I think Im gonna get teary eyed a bit. Its gonna be bitter sweet.

Lets face it, its Friday, got nothing going on during the weekend, we're all going to be seeing a car tonight. We're gonna shift some gears, rev it up and down until we're out of that premium.

A couple notes that should be obvious, if you're driving heR everyday then get a good two way alarm (if you work for honda they should have a alarm person that does aftermarket remote starters that they call in or send cars to).

Stage 2 clutch sounds pretty rough, I have a stage 1 Exedy in my 96 RHD R and it's very usable (and good price).

My car also had cusco coilovers, I don't think they were set up properly or maybe the fronts were blown. I put 98spec suspension on (used) and the car felt way more balanced. (plus I wouldn't scrape my oil pan going over small round curbs with the proper ride height)

Check oil regularly

Take lots of photo's (for insurance and the interwebz)

I think if I ever sold my car, a Honda tech would be ideal, I would want my car to be taken care of.

Thanks for the tips man!

I ordered the oem clutch kit w/o the flywheel. I cant imagine driving it with a stiff clutch in traffic.

Im gonna see how these Cusco's ride. If its too stiff I'll put it back to oem. It comes with the car.

This car eill be in good hands. Im looking to preserve it. It'll be rust proofed when I remove all the panels. Ill post some pics when I close the deal tonight.

Car come with a two way but Im gonna rewire it and hide the unit somewhere. It will look like there is no alarm.

Does anyone know how to install a battery back up for the alarm?
