Default Transmission cooler for 2015 CR-V

Hello everyone.

According to Honda, the towing capacity of my AWD 2015 CR-V with CVT is 1,500lbs. While I will rarely tow more than 5 miles twice a month, I will be at the very limit of this capacity. How do I know if I need a cooler? Also, is there a port in the transmission to which I can attach a gauge?

Thank you.

Once again, European towing standards are 2000kg while North American are 1500lbs. Same chassis with a very different capacity.

Wow! That's nearly three times as much. I'm glad I bought the Class III instead of the Class I hitch. (It just looked so much sturdier and was only a few bucks more.) I wondered why they made a Class III for my car. I guess Curt knew what Honda wasn't saying.

Thank you, BigBerz.

The difference in Euro vs. US capacity is most likely due to the Honda lawyers being so gun-shy in regard to litigious nature of the US. As you say, they are same chassis rolling off the same production lines.

I agree with you about the worth of going up to a class III. As you say, they aren't that much more but they are a lot stronger than the class I. Many people who own the class I Curt hitches don't realize that Curt advises you must use a supplemental web strap running to the top of the back door/hatch if you are attaching most bike racks. The lady at etrailer.com basically didn't recommend the class I for most buyers.

Not sure about Honda, but nissan was having problems with their cvt trans taking a crap while over heating going up hills. I would think, It could use a cooler.

Class I hitches are a joke really, made for bike racks. Can't really tow on them. Class III is the way to go for sure. Trailer brakes are recommended for heavier loads obviously.

Berz out.
