EK EJ Civic...BRAKE Light Stays On. (solved)
Hey all,
I have a 99 civic and the red brake light remains on the gauge cluster. Brake fluid level is good and even with the e brake down the light remains on.
So far I've jumped the brake master cylinder brake fluid level wires together. I also checked the emergency brake pin switch. I bypassed it by placing a jumper wire from the wire directly to ground. Again at this point I'm trying to find out what's causing the problem. What else can cause the light to come on? Thanks

Why would you think that jumping the switches could yield useful information?
Does unplugging one of the switches make the light turn off?
Do you have an EK or EJ?

The 2 wires to check the master brake fluid level is typically a continuity circuit. It uses the brake fluid to complete the circuit. So if the level is low then the circuit is broken causing the light to turn on. It's a quick check so I jumped the wires, hence to complete the circuit.
If I unplug the switch the light remains on.
I have an EJ. 1999 Civic Ex Sedan. I typed in EK as well for search relevance.

The switches receive constant voltage but no ground when the brake fluid level is normal or the parking brake is off. The switches provide ground for the voltage (complete the circuit) if the fluid is low or the parking brake is on. Therefore, jumping the switch could not be expected to turn the light off.
If I unplug the switch the light remains on.

Interesting...good to know. Thanks for the diagrams. Very Helpful. Just came back to update. SOLVED...it was a faulty emergency brake contact.
