LS cable transmission 4th & 5th gear delete
Anyone have any info or experience with possible 4th or 5th gear deletes for an LS cable trans? We're attempting to beef them up for circle track racing applications and have no need for 4th or 5th gears. I'm not even sure if this would provide any type of performance advantage so any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
Unless you're having a custom thicker gearset with custom shift forks fabricated, then I can't think of any reason to do this, the weight savings would be a couple pounds at most.
You'd have to have spacers made to take up the space where the gears were on the shafts since everything just kinda stacks on there and then probably reshim everything.
I haven't looked at the 5/R sleeve too closely but I think you might be able to completely remove that sleeve along with all or part of that shift fork because that's just an idler for the shaft while in reverse.
It just seems like a lot of trouble for zero benefit to me.

Oddly enough, I stumbled across this product while surfing LSD prices. It appears to replace the 5th gear set in B-Series trans while also acting as a brace to keep the gear stacks from moving around.
