1991 Honda accord ex motor stalled while driving, timing off.
I have a 1991 honda accord ex automatic with sport mode.have had a few cat converter problems in the past, but I was driving home just the other night with my brother, everything was running smoothly and suddenly lost all power to my mototr as it started decelerating I got to the side of the road, the motor died.I tried starting it back up and it just rapped on the starter trying to fire.and the key found itself stuck in the ignition.I Ave it half gad and feathered it to start and my motor starting shaking and making a low groan tuning as if on only a ccylinderor two,and my timing seemed completely off.my motor was shaking and struggling to stay started.along with the grinding/moaning noise my exhaust was blowing deathly black smoke, and while it was running my dad and motor we're filled with a burning oil/plastic smell.any clues on what's going on???I am by far completely lost.
I'm not sure on the smell, but black exhaust usually means running rich. If the fuel injectors get stuck open it could cause that, maybe even the stalling issue.
Sounds like your timing jumped, may have even bent an exhaust valve just a leeetle if its smoking pretty bad, it definitely could be letting exhast gas escape during the combustion stroke. I'd imagine a valve got bent for sure if you're smelling a burnt smell with it.
Have you had a chance to check out the timing yet? If its fried and you aren't rebuilding it.....I mean........I'll fix it up and stick a snail on the front
