Default Southbend/DXD Racing HD Stage 1 Clutch Review

Since I haven't seen too much talk about the SouthBend clutches on HT (Compared to ACT, CM, XTD etc) I figured I'd post my initial feelings about the Stage 1 clutch.

SBC Box.

First off, the clutch/pressure plate etc was enclosed in heavy duty extremely duty formed foam - superior protection. I was freaking surprised.

Old clutch and Flywheel - P30 Flywheel . OE Clutch.

.5lb cut p30 resurfaced flywheel.

Southbend Modified Heavy Duty Pressure Plate <br/>Bit heavier than the OEM one.

Back side of PP.

SB modified Exedy Stage 1

Modified Heavy Duty PP and Modified Full Face Ceramic Clutch.

The clutch kit also comes with a Exedy TOB, Exedy Pilot Bearing and the alignment tool.

Per instructions I got the flywheel grinded flat as possible, since the OE one has a very slight taper.

After wrapping it all back up, the clutch pedal felt SOFT, SOFT SOFT. I was severely disappointed. But, I threw myself in a lot of stop in go traffic (5-25mph) for about 25 miles and the pedal began to slightly stiffen up. I believe this pedal pressure is going to get as stiff as this gets. But it sure as hell grabs a lot better than the OE Exedy Clutch and the pedal pressure feels better than the OE Pressure.

I'm doing a 3day road trip around the LA area, so I'm sure im going to rack up a lot of stock and go traffic miles.

South Bend Recommends 400-750 miles of regular driving, no launching, no clutch riding for more than 2 seconds. Be gentle as a virgin! After the break in I shall be back to update my post. I will be launching it and I belive by then i'll have my 60 trim garret turbo installed... Lol.

I will probably do some recording with my go-pro and cell phone.

There is no weird chattering - I used Shin Etsu (Honda Grease) to grease the Input Shaft, TOB, Fork / fork ball, clutch splines. It is JUST SLIGHTLY louder than the stock one.. If not the same.

If installed properly with the flywheel to their spec - You shouldn't have a problem with "chatter" that some people refer to.

I highly recommend this clutch so far over an Exedy Stage 1. Its the modified PP that made the difference I believe.
