Default Need to practice launches, but header was great...

Took the new header for a spin tonight and golly gee, it sure felt different.

I'm not a regular to drag racing, but I used to have decent 2.2 60 ft times on the way to 15.0 runs in the 1/4.
Old method... rev to 4500, dump clutch, go.

Tonight, tried to do just that, but spun my through to a 2.5 60 ft. Changed over to revs to 3000 and feathering lightly, but still only managed a best of 2.318 in the 60 ft which led to a 14.71 in the 1/4. Obviously I need to adjust what the hell I'm doing.

Also, maybe it's just my imagination, but I really seemed to pull much much stronger than before. I had no idea that header, cat, exhaust could make such a difference. Yay!

Time to hit the search button and look for the ol' launch techniques of the masters...

Not ripping on you AT ALL,but shouldnt a 2.2 have yeilded way better times than a 15.0???My friends running 15.0s with 2.4s in his 00 Si with bolt ons,and i know your R would pull him more than likely....Good luck with learning the launch, its not easy, but once you get it down youll be quite happy. What were your trap speeds?

Yup, you should pull a lot harder than stock motor with your setup. Most likely, after 4,000 rpm it rips through the rev range.

I pulled 2.114's with street tires and ATS Final Drive revving to 4000 rpms and slipping the clutch till I got traction. It take practice and likely more slipping than you think.

THere are others who are better than I am at drag racing as I don't do it much. And a 2.2 60' should be about a 14.6-14.7. Are you in Denver or not shifting at 8400 or something?

Ty to feather it alittle more and shift past redline on your tach. WHne my tach read 8400 RPM my VAFC reads like 8100-8200 and this is the accurate one

good point. When I said 8400 I meant true redline. My tach reads 9k before it fuel cuts.

I used to shift around 8200 since I always figured there was a bit of a plateau in power form 8000 to 8400 on the stock setup. Now I shift at 8400 or so, maybe a little beyond (just before cut-off which is close to 8600 on my tach).

Not many of us ran good times out here this past summer, possibly because it was 120 degrees most days. Thats what I assumed... the temp killed things. Your thoughts?

Very nice, must be a pretty loud setup? Is it deep? Can you bear it for daily driving?

I don't think its loud at all. goern-r's setup of AEM, Toda, Carsound, Tanabe RM is much, much louder.

The exhaust went on before the header and cat, and once the header went on I don't think it got much louder... just a little. It's a good deep sound without that tinny, crappy pitch from some others that I've heard.

Daily driving is not a problem at all with windows down or up. I hear the stereo just fine and don't have to crank it. I'm actually surprised at how drivable it is...

No, the 15.0 was stock. But yes, I'm not too hot at dragging.

Trap speeds for after (I'll search for the before slips) was 94.9 to 95.5.

Stock tires by the way with 25 lbs...

sounds about right, except i'd expect better trap speeds with spoon 4-2-1 header, unless its not that much better honda or dc jdm header. As someone else mentioned, how hi are you above sea level? - maybe after adjusting that it might sound better

It was just outside of Phoenix and I never thought of "adjustments" for level. goern-r was there as well and he was running with AEM, Toda, Carsound, Tanabe RM and he only pulled a 14.7 as well. Maybe we both suck. There were a ton of complaints about track conditions though. Hell, even a dude in a Z28 only ran a 15.0 that night and our friend's Bullit only ran a 13.2 and he usually hits 13.0 or high 12's...
