help. 98 civic ex with Dx? trans.
Ok here is the deal I picked up 2 Automatic civics last weekend. One 98 ex and one 96 ex(for parts has a bad engine). The 98 needed a trans so I pulled it from the 96 and swapped It in and now I get the p700 code and it shifts hard if you step on it. It runs and drive well other than that.
Now my question. The 96 parts car has a none vtec head and ecu so that makes me think someone did this to make the dx trans work in the ex witch seems like a lot of work to me.
The trans I put in from the other ex witch I suspect is not a ex trans is 1HGEJ6679YL046366
So what can I do to get rid of the CEL for the p700 code. I have the entire 96 ex( converted to none vtec) car for parts. Could I just unplug the vtec and swap the ecu and tcu over from the None vetec doner car so the car sees the right shift points and quits throwing the CEL?
THanks!

looks like the trans I put in is for a 2000 civic 4 if I did it right?

Thanks thats from the vin tag on the trans, is there another way to tell on the trans what sub model it is since its not a EJ8?

You need an EX trans...you'll need to confirm the VIN on the replacement trans as well or else you'll be screwed out of time and money.

I not going to get a new transmission when this one drives fine just to shut off a check engine light.( I know that would be the right thing to do to make everything match) I really just want to know what I have to take from my doner car to make the check engine light go off because it annoys me.
Could I disconnect the vtec. Swap the ecu and tcu for the ones that match the trans. Would that resolve the CEL issue?

Could you elaborate why for my sanity please? Because some how this ej6 year 2000 tranny was working in the doner car(96 ex) I got it from haha
yeah it has a d16y7. I swapped the ecu's and it ran and drove fine but gave me the CEL for rich fuel trims and it was sucking gas so I swapped back. Had no trans codes though. I guess I don't know the differences between he engines besides the vtec.
Can you add a eprom socket to the p2e? I was thinking I could burn a chip with the d16y8 stock hex code on a ecu made for the right transmission. Assuming the transmission code is not effected. Sorry for the newb questions im not a Honda guy. Thanks
