I have a 1997 Integra GSR. While the car is cold I can get it started then shortly after it will die. It runs fine if I can get it warm with no stalling at all but I have to hold my foot on the gas to keep it above 1500rpm until it warms up. If it dies I cant get it restarted for awhile. My guess is possibly the IACV and when it dies its flooding the cylinders but I'm not sure.

Clean the FITV (Fast Idle Thermo Valve)

Check fuel pressure, and check distributor.

 

Check ECT sensor, [for ECU/ECM] not to be confused with ECT sending unit,[for gauge].

 

Well im not sure about a 97, but on my 92, there is a (idle air control valve or IACV) that is serviceable. On the next generation, the the valve has to be replaced. I'm going to assume you can not "service" your IACV. Typically, your RPMs will not be steady at idle if this is failing. However, there is also a "electric idle control" sensor. On my 92 its a cylinder looking object with a sensor that bolts to the back of the intake manifold. There are two coolant hoses leading to it. The car uses coolant temp to adjust the idle. I literally just had to replace mine today (fortunately have spare parts from previous engine swaps). Mine engine is all original with 275,000 miles! The car would turn over, but die. Kept my foot barely on the throttle til it warmed up and it would idle, but at 1200 instead of 750. I'm going to assume your problem is actually your electric idle control valve, rather than your IACV. Look for a junked car to pull it off of, chances are its still good!
