Default Power Steering Fluid

I went to pep boys because I had a gift card and I was looking around for power steering fluid since I am on the low level line and I could not find anything that said it was specifically made for Honda/Acura. The best I could find was Universal stuff made by GUNK, part number M2713. Would this work in my 96 Honda accord? My power steering pump used to make noise when I first got the car and I have since fixed the noise so I am a little nervous about this stuff. Thanks guys!

If it doesn't state that it is for use in Honda power steering system. I wouldn't use it.

There is one of their fluids that is specifically made for Honda/Acura.

Autozone Part Number: AZ860211
Alternate Part Number: AC860211

From Gunk's description: "Meets service requirements of GM, Ford and Chrysler." Therefore, it almost certainly does NOT meet Honda's requirements, since the viscosities are much different.

I would get the correct stuff. A lot of stores will sell it as "import PSF" or "Asian PSF" but it will say that it's intended for Honda/Acura applications. The Advance Auto and NAPA near here both carry it, I would be surprised if Pep Boys did not.

Thats what I was figuring. Damn, that sucks! I know autozone has the stuff I need, but I only had the pep boys gift card and I found it odd they didnt have anything for honda's specifically. Anyways, thanks for the feedback. I'll have to take it back wait until I get some cash for the correct stuff.

Prestone has a specific type that says "for Hondas/Acuras". I've never had an issue with that fluid. However, fluid is so cheap, why not just get power steering fluid from Honda.

I didnt have any cash at the time, just a gift card I got for christmas. Thats why I didnt go to autozone. I did however hold off on putting that stuff in my car and got the cheap prestone stuff at walmart that specifically said "Made for honda/acuras". It stuck me as odd this prestone stuff was clear, but the stuff I get at autozone is red.

Thats the exact stuff I normally put in the car. My power steering is leaking from somewhere and nobody seems to know where. Hell, the inspector was going to reject my car until I asked him to show me the leak. When he couldnt find it he had no choice but to pass it.

I was just in the same situation. It ended up being a leak that only happened when it was hot and under load. It leaked out the end seal of the rack, into the boot and the vent hose on the end boot popped and the fluid leaked out where it didn't make a huge mess on the chassis. Couldn't tell just from looking under the car where it was loosing fluid.

How frequently have you been adding to the reservoir, and how much?

Hello everyone! Hope that thread still alive) I have a questions to you, my Honda brothers. Have you ever used brand MAG1 PSF for yours Honda's? We have it in ours stores in Russia, but it is not so popular. How good is it? There are two types: Premium PSF and Premium Honda PSF. I bought first one by mistake. Later I have checked their web site and I found out that there is a little difference between them in characteristics (viscosity, pour point and so on). So, my question is, Is it really bad, if I put Premium PSF instead of Honda PSF? Or I have to run to the store for suitable PSF.
Many thanx for help.

You need to get honda fluid. Hondas are very specific with their fluids as I have learned, so its best to spend a little extra to make the car run as intended. Otherwise you will probably end up replacing the pump. This is a year old thread by the way.

Thanx for reply. I know that the Hondas very sensitive for PSF, that why I drive now on OEM fluid (by the way made in US, little one), MAG1 PSF I bought for the future, just to try. But have you ever used/heard about MAG1 brand?
