Default Vss problems?

1997 civic ob2a wiring and ecu with b16a3(del sol motor)
No CEL

My speedo stoped working due to fuse#15 always blowing so rewrapped hardness according to honda bulletin. Now fuse is not blowing but speedo still not working, hooked up code reader with live data vss reads 0g while driving never flickers or moves.

Does this guarantee its the sensor itself or ecu and not cluster?

Check your plug on the transmission, Coolant tends to leak on it and destroy the plug. had the same issue, my plugged look fine i cut it an soldiered a new one and never gave me an issue since.

I have a 1999 obd2b civic so there may be a slight difference, but there are actually two different plugs in that general area that fit the VSS, one of them I believe goes to your charcoal canister EVAP stuff. I had problems with my VSS when I swapped the engine and mislabeled the plug...I'm not saying you're retarded like me, but...I had the wrong plug plugged in the whole time.

As it turned out, the VSS works best when it is not plugged into the EVAP canister wiring. Who knew?

^Definitely look for swapped sensor connectors. If that's fine, voltage and Ohm test the pins in the unplugged VSS connector.

Look up dielectric grease.

I'm not sure this^ is necessary. Do the electrical tests.

Checked plug yes i am using correct plug.

Installed new vss.

Cleaned connector with electrical cleaner. Did notice greenish blue corrosion on black/brown wire(middle wire) on the old sensor and on the connector. Also the plug feels like it wont sit all the way down maybe build up inside still.

Did check with live data reader as i drove and still reading 0g .

Anyone know how to check the plug i am thinking the middle wire is my problem i dont even see the metal contact inside . yes i have a multi-meter on hand.

Thanks in advance

Not sure why you spent money on a new VSS before doing some basic electrical tests. Why throw parts/money at the problem?

Do these electrical tests:

Unplug VSS.

Turn key to ON(II).

In the free connector, which has three connector pins, measure DC voltage (V) and also continuity to body (Ohms).

Post both readings (V and Ohms) for each pin/wire color.

Awesome will do when i get some time thanks!
I planned on buying one even if it was a connector due to the fact i cleaned most of that electrical grease out

You can buy and re-apply some inexpensive dielectric grease, which is much cheaper than a new VSS. Make sense?

Blue/white 4.65 volts
Middle black/yellow? 12 volts
All black 0v

Did notice left and right ones took contact about 1/16 depth of the plug. Middle had to go about 1/8 to make contant once it did it felt loose so tried to pull it back down and it works now so i found my problem whoop!

Thanks RonJ

Now for my other sensor my black plastic is almost melted on. Can i fill the grease up from the slot from inside next to the pin?

Don't fill connectors with dielectric grease. Lightly coat the pins, and also the inside surface of female side connector that mates to the male side connector to create a water seal.
