http://www.decah.net makes a gullwing door kit. they say it can be done in less than two hours for less than a set of wheels, so i'm thinking in the hundreds, maybe a grand or a lil bit more. check the site.

wow, i clicked this post waiting to see flames and all that.
just thought i would say thanks to everyone the responded in a helpful way, instead of the bs that goes on here so often.
the kit usually runs like $1000. i have seen ads in scc and super street for them. i think its pretty damn cool, but its just to expensive for what it is.
i bet if you went to some ahrdware stores, and talked to some body shop guys you could figure out a way to do it. just need to make some type of bracket and have a hydrolic tube thing to push it up, couldnt be to incredibly hard, but would probably take some custom stuff made at a machine shop.
good luck though

you can make them yourself....easy steps
1. get the hinges to lift the door up
2. get the gas shocks to keep the doors at the upright position
3. then go like this >>

Here is what you actuall need.
1. A rail to slide the door about 2 inches out from the body so the door panel and stuff can clear it.
2. A locking rotating hinge that will lock in place when you rotate the door upwards
3. A Hydrolic or Gas piston similar to the ones that hold up your hatch but bigger.
4. A rail so that the piston can collape down when you close the door.
5. A different lock to adjust the way that the new door closes.

There is a car called a gullwing mercedes - it was named that in reference to the way the doors opened.
don't try to sound intelligent unless you actually are.
Mercedes never made a car named the Gullwing. The car in your photo is the SL300. It was available as both a roadster (featured in the movie "Charlie's Angels", utilizing "normal" doors) and coupe (which utilized the gullwing-style doors). It was based on their racing heritage, and took many design cues from their racing cars, including the gullwing-style doors.
The current CLK-GTR incorporates a similar door hinge.
And THAT, my friend, as you so eloquently put it, is what we here call:
