new struts and new noise
I just replaced my struts on my rsx s. I tightened the strut nut all the way down the threads (should of watched a tutorial on that one) while the springs were compressed. Not sure what is causing a click noise when I turn steering to the left real quick after turning right. It just clicks once from the changing direction. other than that suspension is great and even the alignment seems pretty good.(im still going to get it done soon) maybe I will just ask the shop while im there. thanks for any help though. I also replaced a tie rod end but that was on the right side so I doubt that is the problem.
Are the coil springs OEM parts? Are the struts OEM replacements?
Are the coil springs in the proper resting position on the strut body and the top plate rubber?
I have had struts on various vehicles begin to make strut noise during steering because the perches the spring rests in is not properly formed, or is formed in such a way to allow the spring to creep in some cases, producing noise.
In about 30% of cases I have had, the noise disappears after a few months. Some vehicles may require a rubber lower perch insert (mostly Subaru's) to prevent strut noise during steering.
I have used duct tape on the lower end of the coil, and also used shrink tubing to help prevent strut noise with great success. Only the last 2 inches or so need the attention.

It's done by some dealerships in the absence of a rubber insert on the perch itself. The strut nut should be fully tightened before any load is placed on the strut. This ensure the strut rod does not punch the bearing plate and possibly damage the rubber isolator.
